Friendly Chat v1.4.1

Kick emotes are ready the moment you join

Kick emotes used to trickle in one at a time, only appearing after someone actually posted them. The full emote list is now loaded up front, so the emote picker and :name autocomplete are complete as soon as you join a channel — including the channel's subscriber emotes if you're subscribed.

  • Kick's global and emoji sets are remembered between sessions, so they're in the picker before you join anything at all.
  • Emotes are fetched through two different Kick endpoints with automatic retries, so a Cloudflare hiccup no longer leaves you with an empty picker.
  • If the emote list genuinely can't be loaded, the chat feed now tells you instead of quietly falling back.
  • The emote button is no longer greyed out when emotes are available, and an open picker fills in as more emotes load.

The app tells you when there's a new version

Friendly Chat now checks GitHub for new releases on launch and every few hours. When one is available, a banner appears at the top with the version and release notes, and a single button that downloads and installs it:

  • Windows — downloads the installer with a progress bar, launches it, and closes the app so it can update.
  • macOS — downloads the .dmg and opens it, ready to drag into Applications.
  • Linux — downloads the new .AppImage, makes it executable and opens the folder.

Nothing downloads or installs on its own. Later dismisses the banner until the next check and Skip this version silences a release for good. Settings → Updates has a manual check, an on/off toggle for automatic checks, and a way to un-skip a version.

The version you're running is now shown next to the Friendly Chat logo and at the bottom of the Settings window.

Note: this is the first release with update checking, so the banner starts working from your next release after this one — v1.4.1 has no earlier version that knows to look for it.
