Boundary Lab 0.5.0

Boundary Lab 0.5.0 expands geometry generation, coupled-model diagnostics and
desktop packaging since 0.4.4.

Geometry and model editing

  • Add geometry-provider plugins, transactional multi-mesh assemblies and a
    bundled parametric vented-enclosure generator.
  • Detect and repair near-coincident mesh vertices before solving.
  • Add interface geometry measurements and persistent construction diagnostics,
and improve planar interface surrounding-surface selection.
  • Add axial prescribed sources with motion-direction previews and correct
diaphragm area for opposing sides in one acoustic region.
  • Add an optional thermoviscous wall-loss setting for supported FEM regions.
  • Import and export generic driver text from the component editor.

Results and desktop experience

  • Plot separate radiated SPL contributions from coupled interfaces.
  • Export selected traces and simplify docked plot titles.
  • Add layout reset and screen-bounded error dialogs with a copy button.
  • Suppress Windows consoles for background geometry and solver processes.
  • Add standalone Windows CPU/CUDA installer tooling and signed macOS Apple
Silicon packaging with CPU/Metal solvers. Installer publication requires
separate qualification of the actual packaged artifacts.
  • Document optional external Ath/Wine setup on macOS.

Compatibility

The embedded Deploy application has moved to the separate Boundary Lab Deploy
repository. Boundary Lab retains speaker-package export.

The pinned engine dependency is BEAT 0.6.0. Its projected FEM-BEM interface
correction changes numerical results and rejects rank-deficient or poorly
conditioned interface triangulations. Recompute affected results and verify
mesh convergence. Worker and result schema versions remain unchanged.

Known CUDA precision limitation

The Vented_Sub fixture's 50 Hz voice-coil current differs by 0.134% between
CPU and CUDA (about 86 microamps), exceeding the 0.1% backend-agreement screen.
The same comparison in BEAT 0.5.1 differs by 0.135%, so this is an existing
limitation rather than a regression introduced by BEAT 0.6.0.

Against the double-precision CPU reference, the 0.6.0 current errors at 50 Hz
are 0.011% for production CPU and 0.145% for CUDA. Use CPU when this low-current
accuracy matters. The other 20 quantity/frequency comparisons at 50, 100 and
200 Hz pass the 0.1% screen. These checks do not establish mesh convergence or
accuracy for other models and frequencies; the failed comparison remains part
of the qualification record.

Release qualification status

The published BEAT 0.6.0 wheel is pinned identically in pyproject.toml and
packaging/runtime-lock.json, with SHA-256
10db2ee28eb9a8675fa0131127a04eeaad61097328c3aac453721a5924187dd3.
Engine CPU reference, CUDA device, installed-wheel application integration and
Apple Silicon Metal qualification are recorded in the
BEAT release.
The Metal compilation gate passed with its intended production-default MUMPS
solver; UMFPACK override timing failures are retained in that record.

This GitHub release distributes the Python wheel, source archive, Windows
install/update and launch scripts, and SHA-256 checksums. Standalone Windows
and macOS installers are not attached. The locally signed Windows installer
remains separate and predates the final README and splash edits.

The final README wording and splash image are included in this release.
The Windows installer smoke check now compares engine provenance with the
installed BEAT package version instead of the obsolete 0.4.0 constant.

Installation

Windows users can download 01_install_update_boundary-lab.bat and
02_start_boundary_lab.bat into the same folder. Run the install/update script
first, then the launch script. These are setup scripts, not standalone installers.

For source and Python-package installation, see the
0.5.0 README.

Final release qualification

  • Tagged commit: 6c9185bb3ddaeea0b1079abfc44a69b3aa884eb8 (reviewed PR #55).
  • Exact-main CI: 1346 tests passed, 27 skipped; Ruff/format and published BEAT integration passed.
  • Release workflow: metadata and main-CI gates passed; wheel/source built; wheel installed successfully outside the checkout.
  • Final downloaded wheel installed in an isolated qualification environment. Headless project validation and the Simple_Sealed 500 Hz coupled CPU solve passed with finite complex results, complete output and BEAT 0.6.0 provenance. Imports resolved to installed packages.
  • Downloaded asset hashes verified against SHA256SUMS.txt. The final README and splash match the source archive; README metadata and the BEAT wheel/hash pin match the wheel. Repository resources, including the splash image, are distributed in the source archive rather than the Python code wheel.
  • Engine CPU, CUDA and Apple Silicon Metal evidence is linked above. Installer qualification remains separate; no standalone installer is included or advertised by this GitHub release.

Boundary Lab 0.4.4

Maintenance release from the 0.4.3 stable codebase. No new solver or application
features are included.

The Windows updater now installs the latest published stable GitHub release in a
detached checkout, rather than pulling the development branch. It refuses dirty
tracked files, unpublished commits and feature branches, and never falls back to
main if release lookup fails. Existing development branches remain available.

Before updating an older installation, replace its updater with the
01_install_update_boundary-lab.bat asset from this release. Old updater copies
still pull main and cannot be remotely changed. Alternatively, extract the
stable source archive into a separate folder. Stable users should not use the
main branch ZIP. Developers should follow docs/development.md.

BEAT Engine remains pinned to the previously tested 0.1.4 wheel.

Qualification: exact main commit passed Python CI and installed-engine CPU integration. All downloaded artifact SHA-256 checksums verified; six updater regression cases passed against the downloaded batch asset. The downloaded wheel installed separately with BEAT 0.1.4 and validated the Simple Sealed physical project successfully.
