Everything since 1.2.0, on top of a fresh audit pass (static analysis, 100 sanitizer-checked renders, the unit tests and the decoder fuzzers all clean).

Install and update

curl -sL jacktulli.github.io/w2k | sh

on a fresh machine as root, or from a clone ./install.sh --xinitrc. The same command now updates an existing install: it pulls the latest source, rebuilds, installs over the old copy and restarts a running desktop in place with every window kept. w2kwm --version reports what is installed (this release: 1.3.0).

Changes

  • Snipping Tool: saved pictures were black (fixed in 1.1.1) and, on top of that, Save As opened with the folder list focused so a typed name went nowhere; the name box is focused with its text selected now. The Options dialog's Ink colour row no longer collides with the Selection heading. A failed read-back is reported.
  • Windows 7 orb: the real three-state artwork, with the glow fading in and out under the pointer.
  • Icon sets in true colour: the builder had taken the 16-colour image out of each ICO; Windows 7, XP and ReactOS sets are regenerated.
  • Artwork reloads live: a scheme broadcast makes every process re-read skins and icons, so a new set or a skin dropped into ~/.w2k/skins shows at once.
  • w2kwm --restart (or SIGHUP) restarts the window manager in place, keeping all windows. The installer uses it.
  • Luna fixes: the Start menu footer's darker left edge, white specks outside the title bar's corners (the frame is now shaped to the caption's measured curve), and a slice of an icon that the pressed task button's skin carried in its left cap.
  • The README shows the Windows XP and Windows 7 Basic desktops.

The tarball is a prebuilt /usr/local tree for trying the desktop; its w2kdm has no PAM, so use the one-line install for the boot-to-logon setup.
