Codex Task Manager now has its own independent macOS menu-bar launcher and agent. Its item remains visible when ChatGPT or another launcher's menu-bar switch is disabled.

  • Fix menu-bar startup, ownership, duplicate launches, and Quit/relaunch behavior.
  • Size the popover before opening so the full header, search, controls and footer fit below the menu bar.
  • Preserve existing Task Manager settings during the identity migration.

The app is a universal arm64/x86_64 build, Developer ID signed, notarized and stapled. Requires macOS 15 or later. All 67 automated tests pass; native interaction and relaunch checks were run on the development Mac. Intel and other macOS versions have not been exercised. The independent-launch bridge uses a dynamically resolved private macOS API and shows a launch error if it is unavailable.

This remains an early beta. Task-status behavior is still being refined; use Codex as the source of truth.

Codex Task Manager 0.1.0 is an early macOS beta that keeps your Codex task status in the menu bar. See running tasks, find chats waiting for you, group work by project and open the original conversation.

Requires macOS 15 or later. The signed and notarized archive supports Apple silicon and Intel.

Install with Homebrew:

brew install --cask JakeMawson/tap/codex-task-manager

You can also download Codex-Task-Manager-0.1.0.zip, unzip it, move Codex Task Manager.app to Applications and open it.

This beta has known startup and task-status issues that are still being refined. Keep Codex as the source of truth. Task data stays local on your Mac; Codex Task Manager is an independent companion and is not an OpenAI product.

Validation: 64 source tests passed; the universal release archive passed integrity, Developer ID signature, notarization, stapling and Gatekeeper checks. The optional developer-host catalogue smoke test was not enabled, and these checks do not claim the known native bugs are fixed.
