The Onboarding Tool 2.6.2

This release adds full support for Setup Checklist 1.1, brings Setup Manager support up to 1.4.7, and makes import and export faithful: settings TOT doesn't edit now survive instead of being dropped.

Supported versions: Setup Checklist 1.1 and Setup Manager 1.4.7 (with Installomator v10.9). Requires macOS 15 or later.

Highlights

  • Setup Checklist 1.1: the new Agreement step, Focus window position, and Focus Mode & Lockdown settings
  • Message editor for every Markdown message field, with a live preview, formatting toolbar, and line breaks that display the way the Mac shows them
  • Nothing lost on import: keys, step kinds, actions, and values TOT doesn't model are kept through edits, export, and saved projects
  • Dark Mode and per-language image and color sources across both modules

Setup Checklist 1.1

  • Agreement step: Document (with per-language documents), Save Location, Button Label, Show Save a Copy Button, and Show Language Picker. Supported formats: txt, rtf/rtfd, md, and PDF
  • Focus window position, with per-step Show Sidebar, Focus Background, and Blur overrides. Focus is hidden where Setup Checklist ignores it (Screen Sharing, and Default App with an http scheme or content type), and steps where it's discouraged show a caution
  • Focus Mode & Lockdown in Global Settings: Allow Quit, Focus Background, and Blur
  • Behavior: Open When Finished Hide and Finished Script, with a full-size script editor and Import from File
  • Welcome Open When Finished: Setup Checklist, a custom item, or nothing. The Browse menu picks an installed app, a file or app path, or a Self Service policy (Jamf Pro connection required)
  • Backgrounds accept a URL as well as a local path, and preview the Mac's current wallpaper when left blank
  • Button Label on Default App and Screen Sharing steps
  • Image field shown only on step kinds that display it
  • Languages: Bulgarian and Hindi added
  • Screen Sharing: Full Disk Access guidance follows the macOS version. macOS 26 and earlier need the PPPC profile; macOS 27 with Setup Checklist 1.1 doesn't

Setup Manager 1.4.7

  • Starting Message, Finished Message, and Help URL are localizable, with globe buttons. Both messages join Translate All
  • Per-language images: Icon, Banner, Background, and the action Icon have a globe, with Setup Manager's 20 interface languages
  • Action Icon and Tile Color get Dark Mode Override
  • Languages: Portuguese (Portugal) and Chinese (Taiwan) added
  • Installomator labels are pinned to v10.9, the version built into Setup Manager 1.4.7
  • Wait up to 3,600 seconds and Watch Path timeout up to 14,400 seconds
  • Setup Manager 1.0 localization (title.de and similar) is converted to the dictionary form on import instead of dropped
  • Recon tiles note that Setup Manager shows its own "Updating Jamf Inventory…" label
  • Help corrections: Debug Mode, Total Download Bytes, Network Quality Check, User Entry default variables, computer name tokens, webhook Debug logging, Run At, and Final Action

Message editor

  • Opens from Edit… on every Markdown message field in both modules, and on each translation
  • Return is a new line; New Paragraph adds a gap. Line breaks are written so they display on the Mac exactly as typed
  • Formatting toolbar: bold, italic, and code, which toggle off when clicked again
  • Field-specific previews: help window, Setup Manager header, status line, Setup Checklist sidebar and step
  • Warnings for typed \n, Markdown links in Setup Manager (which aren't clickable), unclosed formatting, unsupported or unknown %tokens%, and text longer than the field displays
  • Insert menu for substitution tokens, with a sample-values preview
  • Translate All keeps line breaks and Markdown structure

Import, export, and saved projects

  • Keys TOT doesn't model are kept at every level and exported unchanged. Plist Preview lists them under Keys TOT Doesn't Edit, with Remove
  • Unrecognized step kinds and actions are kept verbatim instead of vanishing (an unknown action used to become Run Policy with an empty trigger)
  • Values TOT can't read are kept as imported, with a note in the editor and a Plist Preview warning
  • A malformed step or action drops only itself, not the whole list
  • New configurations leave titles empty, so each app shows its own translated default title
  • Translations without English are kept, and no English is invented
  • Plist Preview warnings and the kept-keys list scroll instead of squeezing the editor

Images, colors, and localization

  • Dark Mode Override on Setup Checklist Accent Color, step Icon Color, and Welcome Title and Button colors
  • Dark and per-language image sources on steps, Global Settings, and the Welcome background, exported in the documented forms
  • Previews follow the preview's appearance and language, including step list titles

Fixes

  • Welcome Excluded Accounts could leave out a typed name on Save or Export (#2). Add Account now adds a focused row; empty rows are left out and names are trimmed. Plist Preview warns when a name has capitals or spaces
  • Setup Manager import and paste dropped every top-level Dark Mode value
  • Per-language Setup Manager images and colors were lost on import
  • An empty User Entry shorthand exported as an undocumented {}
  • Welcome DEBUG lost an explicit Off, and fractional title font sizes like 72.5 weren't kept
  • Single-dictionary webhooks were dropped, and unknown webhook kinds became plain URLs
  • Dark Mode Override could get stuck on
  • School mode didn't recolor some buttons until they were clicked
  • Setup Manager preview showed color banners and backgrounds as placeholders
  • A false "Unsaved edits" banner appeared when opening Plist Preview
