  1. Get the UnityBZWTools package.

https://github.com/JeffM2501/UnityBZWTools/releases

This is a pre-made package for unity. It will give you everything you need to edit and create BZW maps in Unity.

Alternatively, if you don't want to run from a package, you can clone the repository and open the UnityProject folder in your unity editor.

  1. Open Unity.

If you are using the package, create a new project anywhere you want, and then use Assets -> Import Package -> Custom Package to add the unity tools to your project.

If you are running from the source tree, then select the Unity Project folder as your project to open.

  1. Open the Test Scene.

You will now have the BZWTools menu in your unity editor.

#How to edit maps

Use BZWTools -> Open menu items to load or import bzw files.

All bzflag maps have a root object. This will contain all the other objects associated with the map. Each object has a custom BZW script that allows unity to edit the bzflag specific properties. These properties are shown in the Inspector when the object is selected. Some objects such as "_Grass" are only shown to help visualize the map in unity and are not exported.

You can use BZWTools -> New Map to create an empty world object.

New world objects can be found in the Prefabs folder and can be dragged into the world object and then positioned. Only objects attached to the root world object will be exported.

#Note Unity uses a "Y is UP" coordinate system. BZFlag uses a "Z is up" system. The BZW import/export functions will handle this mapping for you. When editing in unity, use Y like Z and make things be where they look right, the tools will handle the translation for you.
