Version 1.2A
Version 1.2A is the most recent development version of the SpoolScale. It is functionally identical to Version 1.2, but with optimizations made to allow for mass production using mid-scale manufacturing maker resources in the United States.
- Reduced part variety where possible
- Removed fine-pitch VQFN microcontroller, replaced with pin-compatible SOIC-300 (VQFN footprint retained as a backup in case of chip shortages
- Replaced resistor nets with 0603 discrete resistors
- Placed programming test points for semi-automatic code uploading
- Optimized arrangement and positioning of components
Version 1.2
Version 1.2 was developed to correct a number of defects found in Version 1.1, as well as to incorporate improvements based on feedback from test users.
- Removing DIP switch configuration, instead adding RJ12 port for connecting an i2C keypad.
- This will allow for more versatile configuration, including typing in spool weights directly, saving/loading 4 "favorite" spool weights, etc.
- All of these settings will be exposed as i2C slave registers, so the keypad is not needed if using the SpoolScale as an i2C device
- Added a more robust switch for selecting SpoolScale mode
- Options are now GPIO (also works for standalone), i2C, and UART (for configuration purposes only)
- Redid layout of PCB, removed secondary AtTiny footprint
- General component optimization, layout improvements, etc.
Version 1.1
Version 1.1 was the first version of the SpoolScale developed and manufactured. Only 10 units were produced, for use in testing.
