MacHunt Swift Beta 0.1.0-beta.1

This is the first public beta of the fully native Swift version of MacHunt.

Highlights

  • Rebuilt with Swift 6, SwiftUI, and AppKit; no Tauri, React, Node.js, or Rust runtime is required.
  • Fast local filename search backed by a compact normalized SQLite FTS5 index.
  • Bounded multi-core metadata scanning and atomic index rebuilds.
  • Native Finder-style results, configurable columns, sorting, multi-selection, and context menus.
  • Quick Look with the Space bar, Finder integration, Open With, copy, Trash, and pinned items.
  • File size, modified date, added date, Finder tags, and iCloud status metadata.
  • Editable built-in file categories and unlimited custom categories with SF Symbol or emoji icons.
  • FSEvents live index maintenance, external-volume monitoring, exclusions, and configurable roots.
  • Native Settings, macOS menus, global shortcut, launch at login, Dock controls, and bilingual UI.
  • Embedded machunt CLI sharing the same Swift core and index as the app.

Requirements

  • macOS 14 or later
  • Apple silicon

Before first launch

This beta is ad-hoc signed and not notarized. If Gatekeeper blocks it, right-click MacHunt in Finder and choose Open. If macOS still reports that it is damaged, run:

xattr -cr /Applications/MacHunt.app

Full-disk indexing

To build the index with visible progress:

"/Applications/MacHunt.app/Contents/Helpers/machunt" build --path /

Scanning reads metadata from iCloud placeholders but does not intentionally download file contents. Opening or previewing an online-only file may cause macOS to download it.
