An Oscilloscope module: the waveform itself, in a lane per channel. Its
one control is a time base, from 5 ms to 5 s, and it sets both how much time
the width holds and how the window is found — below 200 ms the display is
triggered on a rising zero crossing, so a periodic signal stands still and
can be read, and above it the display rolls right to left the way a DAW
draws a waveform. Anything that reached full scale is drawn in the over
colour, so a clipped passage is a red band rather than a flat top somebody
has to notice. It measures nothing the previous thirteen modules did not:
the samples were already published, and it works on a tablet unchanged.
The oscilloscope leaves a gap where audio was measured and never published —
a file pushed through faster than real time, or a device that overran. The
alternative is drawing the samples that happen to be at hand across the
whole stretch, which is a picture of a programme that never played, at the
right amplitude and in the right place.

The default layout's Spectrum tab carries the oscilloscope across its full
width. The analyser and the three displays below it are a row shorter each
to make room. A layout you have already arranged is untouched — the canvas
as you left it is what reopens.

The meter clock now acquires the engine's snapshot on every tick and throttles
only the repaint. The frame-rate setting still does what it says — at 30 fps
the meters rasterise thirty times a second — but a measurement is no longer
lost between two of them. The engine's snapshot has one slot, so anything a
reader does not take before the next publish is gone; that cost the old
arrangement one measurement in three at 30 fps against a 47 Hz publish rate.
The oscilloscope is the first module for which that is a hole rather than a
coarser picture, and it reads the new unthrottled channel.
