v0.3.0-alpha
Pre-releaseThis alpha adds an update check and fixes the empty log file that made problem reports hard to use, to the native PC port of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time (Nintendo DS), made by statically recompiling the game. It is an early build: it has been played through the opening areas, not the whole game, so expect bugs. Please report them.
Nothing of the game is included. You supply your own copy of the game. Two dumps are supported, checked by SHA-1:
| Version | Code | File | SHA-1 |
|---|---|---|---|
| USA | CFIE | Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles - Echoes of Time (USA) (En,Fr,Es).nds |
1df23d5a3a655bdd587c360b581202931d0f66e1 |
| Europe | CFIP | Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles - Echoes of Time (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es).nds |
18f7004f74c83feba40f003641ec00571e52a301 |
The program checks the dump and builds the game on your PC, once, in about a minute (about 20 seconds on a fast PC). Nothing else needs to be installed.
What's new in 0.3.0-alpha
- Update check. When the program starts it asks GitHub once whether a newer release exists (it sends nothing but the program's name and version). The start screen then shows the release notes and a Download button that opens the release page; with the start screen skipped, a note appears over the game, and Settings, About has the notes too. Nothing is downloaded or replaced by itself. Turn it off in Settings, Interface, Check for updates. Versions before 0.3.0 do not have it, so download this one by hand.
- The log file is no longer empty.
ffcc.logstayed empty when the program was started from the desktop, so problem reports had no log in them. It now has the program's output, including which presentation path and display are in use. (If a run's output is redirected to a file, the log could also grow without end; fixed.) - Screen flicker while talking and moving in widescreen (issue #12): two likely causes are fixed, but they could not be reproduced here, so please report if it still happens. In widescreen the 3D could briefly turn 4:3 under the wide HUD when the game paused to load (for example opening a door). And on a PC with more than one graphics card, the full-screen presentation could be set up on the wrong one; it now uses the card that drives the window's screen.

Experimental
Features marked with a warning icon in the settings have had the least testing: widescreen and HUD placement, 3D at 60 fps and at your display's refresh rate, frame pacing, stable and smoothed textures, analog movement in multiplayer, and everything online.
Known gaps
- The European version has had less testing than the USA one. Saving and online play with it were not tested enough: the host crashed once during a Wi-Fi Connection session and has not crashed again. If it happens to you, the crash report says why; please send it. Whether European and USA players can find each other online is unknown.
- The update check on Linux uses the system's
curland has not been tried there. - No crash dialog on Linux yet (logs and problem reports work).
- Local wireless between instances on one PC works on Windows only.
- Not played through the whole game.
Saves and settings
Windows: %APPDATA%\FFCCEOT-Recomp\EchoesOfTime. Linux: ~/.local/share/FFCCEOT-Recomp/EchoesOfTime. Put a file named portable.txt next to the program (next to the .AppImage on Linux) to keep them in a data folder beside it instead.
Reporting problems
Use Report an issue in the in-game menu: it collects the version, settings, a recent log and a screenshot, with personal paths removed, and opens a prefilled GitHub issue. Or open an issue yourself.
