@JonnieWigley JonnieWigley released this 29 Sep 20:29

First release of DoomBreak, an Android app that limits how long you spend in social apps.

Pick the apps you want to limit, give each its own scroll time and block time, and DoomBreak warns you at 80%, sends the app home when time is up, and keeps it blocked for the block time.

Install

  1. Download DoomBreak-v0.1.0.apk on your phone.
  2. Open it and allow installs from your browser or files app. If Play Protect warns that the app is unrecognised, choose Install anyway.
  3. Open DoomBreak, tap Open Accessibility settings, and switch on DoomBreak. If the toggle is greyed out, open the app's info page, tap the ⋮ menu and choose Allow restricted settings.
  4. Optional, for screen-time charts: Settings → Special app access → Usage access → DoomBreak → allow.

What's in it

  • Limits for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, X, Snapchat, Reddit, Discord, Threads, Pinterest and LinkedIn, each with its own times
  • Warning card with a live countdown, and a block card
  • Per-app 7-day screen-time chart and a week-on-week trend
  • Light, dark or system theme
  • No internet permission: settings and timers stay on your phone

Good to know

  • Needs Android 7.0+ on a 64-bit (arm64) phone
  • Signed with a debug key, so a future release signed with a different key can't update this one. You'd uninstall and reinstall
  • Apps are matched by package name, so regional variants (for example TikTok in some Asian countries) aren't limited
  • The weekly trend appears once two full weeks have been tracked
