GoF2Remake-UWP-2026.10.02.zip |
Windows 10 / 11 as a UWP app package (x64) |
Windows: unzip, then run GoF2Remake.exe in the GoF2Remake folder.
Linux: unzip, then run GoF2Remake.x86_64 in the GoF2Remake folder. If it won't start: chmod +x GoF2Remake.x86_64.
Android: copy the APK to the phone and open it. Allow installs from this source when the phone asks.
UWP: unzip, then right-click Install.ps1 and choose Run with PowerShell. The package is signed with a self-made test certificate, so the script first asks to trust it, with an admin prompt. Afterwards "GoF2 Remake" is in the Start menu. Discord status, controller gyro, the save file dialog and the dedicated server are not available in the UWP version.
Hosting a server
- From the game: Multiplayer > Host a game. Choose Public (listed in the server browser), Invite only (join code) or Local network. You can set a password and Max players (up to 100).
- Dedicated server (Windows / Linux): open
Start Dedicated Server.bat(Windows) orstart-server.sh(Linux) in the game folder with a text editor. Set the name, the password and the player limit, then run it (sh start-server.shon Linux). It runs the game headless and online: a console shows the join code, who joins, and the chat, and takes the commandshelp, status, list, say, kickandstop. Only the server can run commands.
The full guide is in the README.
Changes since 2026.10.01
Multiplayer
- Online play without IP addresses: hosting goes through Unity Relay. Friends join with a six-character join code, and nobody needs port forwarding.
- Server browser: lists every public game with its name, host, players (like
4 / 16), version and SERVER / PASSWORD tags, refreshed every 5 seconds. Click a game to join. - Three ways to host: Public (listed under a game name you choose), Invite only (join code) or Local network (by address, as before).
- Passwords for any game. The server checks them, so a known join code isn't enough.
- Max players setting, from 2 to 100.
- Version check: only players on the exact same version can join. Anyone else gets a message saying which version the game runs. Builds older than this release can't join at all.
- Dedicated server: the Windows and Linux builds can host a session with nobody playing on that machine. It's started by the new launcher next to the game, or with
-server. It runs without a window and without sound, and opens its own console window on Windows. Options:-relay,-name,-password,-maxplayers,-unlisted,-port,-fps. - Server console commands:
help, status, list, say, kick <player> [reason]andstop. A kicked player sees the reason, and players are told why when the server stops. - The Multiplayer menu is redesigned around the server browser. Your pilot name is at the top.
- In an online game, the join code shows under the station's system information, with a Copy button.
- The pilot list and the squad window now stay behind the hangar, missions and status windows.
- The host leaving now tells the last connected player why, and a server's player numbers start at Player 1.
Graphics
- NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR 2 / 3 / 4 upscalers on Windows: DLSS needs an RTX card, FSR 3 / 4 need DirectX 12. There's a new Upscaler quality option, from Native (DLAA / native AA) to Ultra performance. Render scale and Upscaler quality show only when they apply.
Controls and options
- Vibration: haptic feedback on controllers and Android phones for shots, hits, collisions, explosions, boost, jumps and mining, with an intensity slider (Options > Controls).
- The Options page in the pause menu and the station menu now looks like the main menu's, with tabs (Q / E or LB / RB switch them).
Main menu and saves
- Update available: the main menu shows a button when a newer release is out on GitHub.
- Export and import of all save games as one file (Options > Gameplay in the main menu), to move your games to another PC or phone. The file is checked first; importing replaces every save, and the old saves are kept in a backup folder.
- The main menu's full button list moved up, so Exit stays clickable.
Gameplay fixes
- The Void's wormhole spins the right way round and has the original's tilt toward you.
- Prologue: no asteroid can sit where the three pirates appear.
Station
- The station menu and the Launch button no longer touch the news ticker.
Debug tools
- Ships tab: fly any of the game's 68 hulls, including the capital ships (the carrier, the Vossk battleship, the Valkyrie and the Void mother ship) with their turrets.
- New cheat: no secondary weapon cooldown.

- Debug tools: a toggle in Options > Gameplay and a Debug button in the main menu; give items, spawn any ship or object, fly the Terran battleship
- Android: the launcher now shows "GoF2 Remake"
- Linux builds
Story & missions
- Mission briefings wait a few seconds after launch instead of popping up immediately
- Multi-waypoint missions advance to the next waypoint in every orbit
- Freelance "destroy" missions and story objectives finish after the last enemy's death animation, not as it starts dying
- Missions that need equipment (tractor beam, passenger cabins…) are checked before launching and before Khador jumps
- Star map: only the Mido system is visible until you leave Mido, like the original
- Planets can't be locked in the prologue and the rescue
- Freelance target planet gets its marker in flight
- Space junk: labelled "Space junk" (not "Pirate"), proper explosion and its own debris container
- Illegal convoy: the frigates trigger the battle music
- Keith no longer shows up as Corny in Alice's Void chatter
- Dying now pauses cutscenes, level scripts and conversations
- Story blueprint and coordinate sellers stay sold out after you buy
- Loma is on the map from the start; kills, signatures and prices work as in the original
Supernova DLC
- Opening cutscene reworked from the original code: camera, sun, the explosion
- Final battle and the Harval duel reworked from the original scripts
- The supernova no longer rolls and swells with your view; sun size fixed after the bomb
- Supernova flares stream out of the supernova
- Burning station fire and other animated textures now move
- Gamma radiation bar is back
- Wrecked station debris no longer glows bright red
Flight, combat & effects
- Your ship tumbles again when it's destroyed
- Freighter wrecks keep their heading (no more 180° flip)
- Prologue: the Phantom takes shield and armor hits, pirates talk in shot
- Smoke trails for your rockets and missiles
- Asteroid explosions face the camera and fade like the original
- No more lines behind the thrusters
- Effects (exhaust, engine glow, explosions) are no longer pixelated
- Beam lasers keep the right orientation
- EMP bomb glow animates; tractor beam looks right
- Freighter explosion fire is the right size
- The Void station is its real (huge) size
- Autopilot menu and quick menu (secondary weapons, wingmen, cloak, Khador) are separate again; secondary weapons can be switched
- HD crosshair
Visuals
- Much sharper sky: stars are crisp points instead of blurry blobs
- Suns at the original brightness (Mido's sun was far too bright)
- Ultrawide: hangars and bars keep the 16:9 width, so no unfinished room edges
- Sun and planets no longer stutter during fast-forward
- Hangar flights: ships fade out at the edge of the view instead of popping
Audio
- Engine sounds rebuilt from the original's sound data: proper falloff, max 3 NPC engines at once
- Prologue battle music plays until the last pirate dies
- Music keeps playing when Gunant finds your ship
- No music cut during the Kernstal arrest cutscene
UI & station
- Space Lounge: the menu panel no longer covers visitors (Back button instead); skipping the intro glides
- Shop: mounted and cargo items shown apart, station and hold amounts labelled, mounted missile counts
- Blueprints: marks the ingredients this station sells
- Larger shop text; the flight button-hints toggle works
- Station menu: controller skips locked buttons
- Main and station menus: Steam controller D-pad works every press (tested with a virtual controller)
- Reset key bindings and Steering Calibration look like buttons
