Simple Recorder v1.2.2
The first public release of Simple Recorder: a free, open source screen recorder for Windows 10 and 11. No account, no watermark, no time limit.
Download
SimpleRecorder-Setup.exe. It installs for your Windows user only (no administrator rights) and adds Start Menu and desktop shortcuts. Windows may say Windows protected your PC because the setup is not signed yet: click More info, then Run anyway.
Already have Simple Recorder? The Updates box in the app offers this release; click Download and it restarts on v1.2.2.
What it does
- A floating recorder bar that stays on top: record, pause, stop, start delay, frame rate, sound, and what to record.
- Record the screen under your pointer, a window you pick, or an area you drag.
- 720p, 1080p, or 1440p at 24, 30, or 60 fps, saved as MP4.
- Microphone with a level meter, start delay, auto stop, and
Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Sto stop from anywhere. - A Takes page with every recording grouped by day.
New in this release
- Backups to keep in Settings. Before an update installs, the app saves a checked copy of its settings database. You can now keep the newest 2 (the default), 5, 10, or all of them, or turn them off. Lowering the limit removes the oldest copies right away; nothing else in the folder is touched.
- Your data when switching in Settings shows which build this copy is and opens the backups folder.
- Updates are anonymous: the app never reads a GitHub sign-in or token to check for or download public releases.
- Every update package is checked against the SHA-256 in its release's
latest.jsonbefore it installs. - Licensed under MIT.
Privacy
No analytics or telemetry. The only network request is the update check to this repository's GitHub Releases. Recordings stay on your computer.
