OpenMW-DS v0.7.5
Updates for v0.7.5
- Converted to stand-alone app. No longer built on top of Alpha 3, so can be installed even if you already have Alpha 3 installed.
- Can now migrate saves from Alpha 3 folders (including from previous versions of this app).
- Can now migrate settings from Alpha 3 folders (but not recommended, unclear if your settings will be compatible).
- Simplified Morrowind Files and Data Files set up.
- Fixed bug when minimising the app (previously the bottom screen would always stay active).
- Minor UI fixes and changes.
- Fixed bug where long pressing on an enchanted item or scroll in the spell menu wouldn't show info correctly.
Requirements
- AYN Thor handheld.
- Morrowind data files (you must own a copy of Morrowind)
Installation (updated for v0.7.5)
You will first need a copy of Morrowind on the device. Best downloaded from a PC then transferred to the Thor. You will need the entire Morrowind folder, not just the Data Files folder.
Upgrading from Alpha3 or older OpenMW-DS versions (v.0.7.0 or older).
- Download the APK from Releases page and install the app.
- The app will recognise you have had a previous version of this app, or alpha3 installed and offer to copy your saves.
- Copy your saves if you like.
- Copy your alpha3 settings if you like. These are items found in the settings.cfg (like "prevent merchant equipping", and graphics settings). I recommend not doing this if you want a native OpenMW-DS experience. You can change the settings later anyway.
- Select your Morrowind folder when prompted.
- It will say "Morrowind.esm Not Found", tap yes.
- Navigate to your Morrowind folder (NOT DATA FILES), then tap "Use this Folder".
- Select your Data Files (inside Morrowind Folder) when prompted to add your mods.
- Navigate to your Morrowind > Data Files folder, then tap "Use this folder"
- Check the content tab to see if esm's are there. If mods esm's aren't listed then tap Settings (on the right), then Home (top right), then try checking the Content tab again.
- You can now run the game by pressing the OpenMW-DS icon on the right.
First time install
- Download the APK from the Releases page
- Tap the downloaded APK to install the app. Follow prompt to allow installs from unknown sources if asked.
- Launch the app.
Setup Guide
OpenMW-DS is its own app (installs alongside Alpha3, doesn't replace it). It's a fork of Alpha3, so it inherits Alpha3's
launcher, game-file management and device configuration; but it runs as a standalone app, not on top of Alpha3.
Settings
- Have a look through the Settings.cfg (left side menu) to enable or disable any settings you like.
- I have already enabled controller by default.
- I have disabled haptics by default because I found it to vibrate at random even when standing still.
- I have changed some in game controller inputs for a better in game experience. You can change them back in game.
- To disable "toggle sneak" go to the in game Settings > Scripts > OpenMW Controls > Toggle Sneak.
- I haven't changed any graphical settings from default, but I like to turn on shadows (runs fine on Thor Max).
Save Location
- If you want to use your openMW saves. I the save location is:
- /storage/emulated/0/OpenMW-DS/saves. (consoles internal storage/OpenMW-DS/saves)
- I recommend using LocalSend to quickly transfer files between Mac/PC/Thor over Wi-Fi.
Mods
- I haven't tested this with mods such as Tamriel Rebuilt yet. The minimap "should" work fine, but unsure about item icons.
