Updates for v0.8.6

  • Major update to the launcher. Now simplified for new users. Old launcher can be accessed through Settings.
  • Launcher now has an updater to keep the app up to date with new builds. Updates won't download automatically though, you can choose if you want them.
  • Adaptive brightness for the bottom screen, based on time of day and location. It adapts to brightness settings in the game as well.
  • Dev Tools added to options. Use this to access the console and type console commands. More tools will be added later.
  • Swapped equipped icons on hud tab
  • Fixed bug that prevented equipping rings and amulets
  • Moved filters in inventory tab, added sorting
  • Fixed bug that caused resolution issues when installed on bottom screen.
  • Other minor bug fixes and improvements.

Special thanks to Reddit user ReallyLongLake for bug testing and feedback!

Requirements

Installation (updated for v0.8.6)

You will first need a copy of Morrowind on the device. Best downloaded from a PC then transferred to the Thor. You will need the entire Morrowind folder, not just the Data Files folder.

Upgrading from OpenMW-DS versions 0.7.5 - 0.8.0.

  • Download the APK from Releases page and install the app.
  • Check that your esm files and mods are listed on the new home page. If not showing, follow the first time install guide below.
  • If you have Alpha3 saves newer than your OpenMW-DS saves then you can copy them over in Settings.
  • Press play game to play game...

Upgrading from OpenMW-DS versions .0.7.0 or older, or Alpha 3.

  • Download the APK from Releases page and install the app.
  • The app will recognise you have had a previous version of this app, or alpha3 installed and offer to copy your saves.
    • Copy your saves if you like.
    • Copy your alpha3 settings if you like. These are items found in the settings.cfg (like "prevent merchant equipping", and graphics settings). I recommend not doing this if you want a native OpenMW-DS experience. You can change the settings later anyway.
    • Select your Morrowind folder when prompted.
      • It will say "Morrowind.esm Not Found", tap yes.
      • Navigate to your Morrowind folder (NOT DATA FILES), then tap "Use this Folder".
    • Select your Data Files (inside Morrowind Folder) when prompted to add your mods.
      • Navigate to your Morrowind > Data Files folder, then tap "Use this folder"
  • Check Home Screen to see if esm's are there. If mods esm's aren't listed then tap Settings (on the right), then back to see if that populated the list. If that didn't work then try to select Data Files folder again.
  • You can now run the game by pressing Play Game.

First time install

  • Download the APK from the Releases page
  • Tap the downloaded APK to install the app. Follow prompt to allow installs from unknown sources if asked.
  • Launch the app.
  • Check the home page to see if esm's are in the load order. If mods esm's aren't listed then tap Settings (on the right), then back, then check the list again. If that doesn't work then try selecting the Data Files folder again.
  • You can now run the game by pressing the Play Game Button.

Setup Guide

OpenMW-DS is its own app (installs alongside Alpha3, doesn't replace it). It's a fork of Alpha3, so it inherits Alpha3's launcher, game-file management and device configuration; but it runs as a standalone app, not on top of Alpha3.

Settings

  • Have a look through the Settings top right to enable or disable any settings you like.
  • I have changed some in game controller inputs for a better in game experience. You can change them back in game.
  • To disable "toggle sneak" go to the in game Settings > Scripts > OpenMW Controls > Toggle Sneak.
  • I haven't changed any graphical settings from default, but I like to turn on shadows (runs fine on Thor Max).

Save Location

  • If you want to use your openMW saves. I the save location is:
  • /storage/emulated/0/OpenMW-DS/saves. (consoles internal storage/OpenMW-DS/saves)
  • I recommend using LocalSend to quickly transfer files between Mac/PC/Thor over Wi-Fi.

Mods

  • I have only tested with Tamriel Rebuilt (Manual install), and Alex's Running Without Fatigue. Both work fine. Any tools that modify the actual Morrowind.esm file may cause bugs. Load order must be 1) Morrowind.esm, 2) Tribunal.esm, 3) Bloodmoon.esm, then the rest of your mods. Mod load order for the rest may also matter but you'd have to check individual mod instructions for that (for example Tamriel Rebuilt needs to be in 4 and 5 if installed).
