This release marks the point where the Haiku Qt 6 WebEngine port is no longer only a development-tree experiment.
The runtime package was:
- built as a native Haiku HPKG;
- installed on a second Haiku system independent from the development tree;
- started directly from the installed package;
- tested with QtWebEngine renderer child processes;
- successfully used with complex modern web applications such as Gmail.
Components
The package includes:
- QtWebEngineCore 6.10.3
- QtWebEngineWidgets 6.10.3
- QtWebEngineQuick 6.10.3
- QtWebEngineProcess
- Chromium 134 runtime resources
- QtWebEngine locales
- QtWebEngine QML runtime material
- Kaze test browser
- a private hrev59808
libnetworkcompatibility fix used only by Kaze and its QtWebEngine child processes
Reference platform
Haiku R1~beta5+development hrev59808 x86_64
Qt 6.10.3
Other Haiku revisions are currently untested for this preview.
Important Haiku compatibility note
During the porting work, a Haiku resolver issue was isolated which could unexpectedly close file descriptor 0.
For the currently accepted hrev59808 environment, Kaze therefore loads a private patched libnetwork.
This private library is used only by Kaze and its QtWebEngine child processes. It does not replace Haiku's system libnetwork.
Known limitation
The accepted configuration currently uses software rendering.
WebGL / ANGLE acceleration is not yet part of this preview's accepted feature set.
Next
A separate QtWebEngine developer package is being prepared.
It will include the material needed by other Haiku developers and porters, including:
- QtWebEngine development files
- Kaze source code
- source and patch documentation
- build and GN notes
- Haiku-specific porting findings
- diagnostic information gathered during the port
Kaze itself will continue to be developed beyond its current role as the QtWebEngine reference and acceptance-test browser.
Feedback
This is an early preview intended for testing.
Feedback and test reports are very welcome. Please include your exact Haiku revision when reporting problems.
