A startup screen, and no freeze after launch

Omni360 now opens with its own startup screen

  • Your library is read in the background, so the app no longer freezes for a few seconds after it appears.
  • The update check no longer stalls the screen when it finishes.
  • No more flash of log text when the app starts.

Popular and genre rows, and BioShock Infinite

The Store has rows now. Under A to Z, scroll through Popular, Top rated, and a row for each genre: Shooters, Racing, Role-playing, Fighting, Sports, Family and more. "Popular" is how many people rated a game on Xbox Live; nothing you download is tracked.
BioShock Infinite is in the Store, along with Dead Island, Disney Universe, Midway Arcade Origins and Asterix at the Olympic Games. These were only on archive.org as RAR files, which Omni360 can now install from when they're uncompressed.
The Store's covers no longer flicker when lots are on screen.
Viva Piñata and a few others show their English names.

Settings redesign, navigation sounds, and a Store that changes by itself

  • New Settings page. Slim rows that fit on one screen. Library folders are a list of checkboxes, the disc read speed changes with left and right, and a help line at the bottom explains whatever's selected.
  • Navigation sounds. A soft tick as you move around, plus sounds for A and B. Turn them off under Settings → Navigation sounds.
  • Featured games now change on their own. Each week has a theme (racing, fighting games, hidden gems…), and big releases get their series featured. Gears of War is up for E-Day this week, then Call of Duty for Modern Warfare 4 and GTA for GTA VI. Up to five games at a time.
  • Your Library and the Store have a little more room, with less text at the top.

Search, and games kept as folders

  • Search the Store. The Search button finally works: type a name and it searches 360, Original Xbox, Xbox Live Arcade and Indie games all at once. Spaces and punctuation don't matter, so "spiderman" finds Spider-Man and "halo3" finds Halo 3. You can also search by title ID. Press Y on the results to search again.
  • Extracted (XEX) games in your Library. Games kept as folders with a default.xex, the way Aurora and XeXMenu users often store them, now show up in the Library. Original Xbox folders with a default.xbe do too. Turn on the folder they're in under Settings → Library location, for example Hdd1:\Games. Multi-disc games in Disc1/Disc2 folders show as one game. You get covers, Find DLC and Title updates for them, and Uninstall deletes the game's folder.

Original Xbox games

  • New Original Xbox section in the Store: about 500 Original Xbox games the 360 can play, installed as Games on Demand. Your console needs the backward compatibility files.
  • Disc installs work with Original Xbox discs. The 360's drive refuses to read parts of an Original Xbox disc, so Omni360 now reads only where the game's files are.
  • Disc read speed in Settings. If a scratched disc fails partway through an install, try a slower speed.
  • Original Xbox discs show their real name instead of "Title XXXXXXXX".
  • Box art falls back to xboxunity when Xbox Live's image won't load. This fixes Halo and other games that had no cover.

Xbox Live Indie Games

The Store's XBLIG button is live: about 3,450 indie games from archive.org, A to Z. Indie games have no box art, so each tile shows the game's name beside an indie banner. The update indie games need to start is installed automatically with the first one, so they launch even if your console is offline from Xbox Live.

  • Library folders: Settings can now add more folders to your library, on the hard drive or a USB stick. It lists the likely ones it finds; press A to add or remove one.
  • Settings is split into sections: Library location, archive.org keys, and Updates.
  • Japanese indie game names are shown in romaji.
  • If downloads won't connect, the log now records your network and the console's clock at startup, and says why a connection failed.

Update from Settings → Updates, or replace Omni360.xex by hand.

Xbox Live Arcade

The Store's XBLA button is live: about 740 arcade games from archive.org, A to Z, each with its own page. Install one and it downloads straight into your content folder, ready to play from the dashboard or Aurora.

  • Arcade games get their own box art banner.
  • Your library now finds installed arcade games, demos and indie games. They were being skipped before.
  • Browsing the Store no longer stutters: covers, wallpapers and screenshots are decoded in the background, and they arrive faster too.
  • X on the disc tile opens the game's page.

Update from Settings → Updates, or replace Omni360.xex by hand.

v0.2.3-beta

@JustGillin JustGillin released this 02 Oct 19:03

Omni360 0.2.3-beta

  • Updating from Settings works. In 0.2.2-beta the Update button failed straight away
("couldn't be downloaded from GitHub"): GitHub's link to a release's signature was longer
    than the app expected.

If you're on 0.2.2-beta or older, replace Omni360.xex by hand this once. From this version
on, Settings → Updates installs new versions for you.

@JustGillin JustGillin released this 02 Oct 18:50

Omni360 0.2.2-beta

Its Update button doesn't work; use 0.2.3-beta instead.

  • Update from inside the app. Settings → Updates now has an Update button: it downloads
the new version, checks it's a genuine signed release, installs it and restarts Omni360.
Your settings, keys and games stay as they are, and the previous version is kept beside
    it as Omni360.xex.old.
  • Releases are now signed. The app only installs an update whose signature matches the
project's key, so nobody else can push an update to your console.

If you're on 0.2.1-beta or older, replace Omni360.xex by hand this once. From this version
on, updates install from Settings.

Omni360 0.2.1-beta

New

  • Update check — Omni360 now asks GitHub for a newer version when it starts, and tells
you if there is one. Settings → Updates shows what's new in it. You can turn the check off
    in Settings.
  • The Store's Original Xbox button now fits its name on HD screens.

If you're on 0.2.0-beta, replace your Omni360.xex with this one. From this version on,
the app will tell you about new releases itself.
