U 1.4.0: reasons that travel

Choose a tag to compare

@Justichuu Justichuu released this 17 Oct 06:05

Every u now says what would settle it, all the way through a computation, and many checkers make one answer only when they all agree.

  • Reasons that travel (u/why): a value is its face, the questions that could still change it, and who answered. not, and and or keep every reason any answer could still need.
  • Is it settled? (settled): asked of the knowing, not the value; never u. With it, U's operations build every two-input rule over 1, 0 and u (19,683 of 19,683; without it, 197).
  • Witnesses (witnesses, settle): 1 or 0 only when every checker agrees, otherwise u naming who said what. Never a vote.
  • Python port (why.py), and why-cli.mjs for JSON on stdin. u.js and why.js now import in a browser.
  • Also released from 9 and 10 October: u-bytes (u/u-byte), U6 (u/u6), the Python class U in u.py, and the fix that a u-bit must be one of u's faces (U2's pack, U5's reader).
  • The README is rewritten in the standard order: what U is, install, usage with real output, API.

[W] 80 Node tests; u.js, u.py and a POSIX shell give the same 22-result tape (01u10u000u0u11110u1uu1, unchanged); why.js and why.py answer 4,068 formulas byte for byte; u.js and why.js import in Chromium; CI passes on Linux, Windows and macOS with Node 22 and 24.

[U] The checkers are assumed to fail independently; three that share a blind spot agree on it. The shell port carries no reasons.

U 1.3.3: readable fish progress window

Choose a tag to compare

@Justichuu Justichuu released this 08 Oct 17:54

Run U now describes its fish progress window as "from 0 to one and three tenths". Geometry, state transport and truth tables are unchanged.

[W] All 46 Node tests, three runtime tapes, source checksums and Chromium/Firefox/WebKit interaction checks pass, including the actual offline download. The current browser entries match their source.

[W] Local Python gzip at level 9 measures 15,928 bytes, up from 15,919 in 1.3.2; the existing 14,600-byte site budget remains exceeded. Hosted transfer size and physical assistive technology were not measured.

U 1.3.2: readable fractal scale

Choose a tag to compare

@Justichuu Justichuu released this 08 Oct 12:10

The fractal child-scale readout now displays 55% without floating-point residue. Geometry, state transport and truth tables are unchanged.

[W] The browser regression failed before repair and passes at depths 0, 3 and 6 and in the actual offline download. All 46 Node tests, three runtime tapes, source checksums and Chromium/Firefox/WebKit interaction checks pass.
[R] Progress, coordinate and intersection readouts already use the existing number formatter; this repair applies it to the percentage too.

U 1.3.1: accessible fractal depth control

Choose a tag to compare

@Justichuu Justichuu released this 08 Oct 12:03

The fractal depth slider now has the accessible name "Fractal depth" through an explicit link to its visible label. Previously the nested output received the implicit label instead.

[W] The new regression failed before the repair and passes in Chromium, Firefox and WebKit. All 46 Node tests, three runtime tapes, the actual offline download, source checksums and browser freshness checks pass.
[R] Drawing and keyboard depth behavior are preserved.
[A] Physical assistive-technology use remains unobserved.

U 1.3.0: cycloid fish and recursive previews

Choose a tag to compare

@Justichuu Justichuu released this 08 Oct 11:48

The U browser now draws genuine asymmetric cycloid branches, carries a labelled state through their crossing, and builds a finite recursive fish tree.

  • Swim and NOT preserve the existing three-valued logic and its behavior fingerprint.
  • Adjust angle, phase, pace and fractal depth; dotted tails show continuation.
  • The standalone Run-U.html works offline and includes source and license.
  • Pando is an analogy of connected forms sharing an origin, not a biological model.

[W] 46 Node tests, three runtime tapes, source checksums, browser freshness, and Chromium/Firefox/WebKit interaction and offline-download checks pass.
[R] Recursion uses fixed contractive similarities; the display is finite.
[A] Geometry defaults are illustrative. Physical devices, assistive technology and geometric AND/OR are not established.

U 1.2.1

Choose a tag to compare

@Justichuu Justichuu released this 06 Oct 12:11

Fixed

  • [W] The 1.2.0 release manifest hashed PROVENANCE.md and test/logic.test.mjs with
    Windows line endings, so checks/verify-sources.mjs failed on GitHub. Every hash is now
    taken from the committed bytes. No code changed.

U 1.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@Justichuu Justichuu released this 06 Oct 12:03

Added

  • [W] U2-bytes (u2.js): three witnesses in four bits, two bits and one u-bit, every
    face built from u.js; test/u2.test.mjs.
  • [W] U5-bytes (u5.js): five u-bits hold 3^5 = 243 values in one eight-bit byte; the
    13 byte values above 242 unpack to u; test/u5.test.mjs.
  • [W] test/number.test.mjs: u is one half (not, and, or are 1 - x, min and max).
  • [R] audio.mjs asks iOS for the playback session before any sound, so the ringer
    switch should no longer mute it; a silent loop keeps older iOS awake. Not run on a
    physical iPhone here; test/audio.test.mjs passes in Node, which has no window.
  • [W] Package exports ./u2 and ./u5.
  • [W] Retained the device repository's contributor instructions in AGENTS.md.

Changed

  • [W] Joined the original core and device histories to nostalgia without
    replacing the newer U source. Namespaced history tags retain all original refs
    and release tags; the perennial experiment keeps its own retained branch.
  • [W] Reassociated the existing device worktree with U, preserving its working
    files, index and reflog. The other linked worktree stays unchanged.
  • [W] checks/verify-sources.mjs says what it establishes and what it does not: the
    manifest is generated from the same files, so it proves bytes unchanged, not correctness.
  • [W] The release manifest lists u2.js, u5.js and their tests, and matches README and audio again.

Removed

  • [W] Removed the retired top-level u-core and u-device checkouts after
    verifying every original Git object in U. The only untracked content removed
    was the generated core burn temporary file; no private state was found.

Fixed

  • [W] Pinned U's prior reflog commits and otherwise unreachable objects with
    Git refs, retaining that local recovery evidence.

Validation

  • [W] Node v26.7.0 on Windows, 6 Oct 2026: node verify.mjs agreed across 3 of 3
    runtimes; node --test over the six test files, 35 of 35 passed;
    sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS.txt matched every listed file.
  • [W] All 245 original Git objects are present (2 Oct consolidation). Windows Git sees
    both retained worktrees; application source is unchanged by the consolidation.

Not checked

  • Physical devices, including the iOS sound change on a real iPhone. Settled by
    playing a page that uses audio.mjs on an iPhone with the ringer switch off.

Its manifest check fails on GitHub (two hashes taken from Windows line endings). Use 1.2.1: same code, corrected manifest.

U 1.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@Justichuu Justichuu released this 24 Sep 03:57

U keeps an open name and purpose. This release adds a browser entry, a self-contained offline download, and an optional audio adapter used by Rod.

Open Run-U.html in a browser, or use Run U. Python and terminal commands are optional developer paths.

  • W: 24 Node tests and three runtime ports passed on the recorded snapshot. Original and downloaded HTML passed six browser/viewport combinations.
  • W: Chromium and Firefox completed Rod audio nodes; this WebKit build exposed no Web Audio and reported U.
  • R: Headsets and audio-connected transducers share the system audio adapter. Local speech requires an exposed local voice.
  • U: Physical bone conduction, hearing, universal hardware support and authorship inferred from the finite tape remain unestablished.

Includes checksums, retained contributor records, the published license options and scoped reports.
