Tavern Ledger 0.2.1 (beta) for Windows

From this version on, the app updates itself. If you have 0.1.0, install this version over it once: it keeps your games and settings. After that, new versions come by themselves.

Updates by themselves

  • The app looks for a new version a minute after it starts and every six hours, downloads it in the background and keeps it only if it is signed by the project's key and is the version announced.
  • When one is ready, a small notice says so, with "Restart now" and "Later". Nothing installs during a game, and the app never restarts on its own or goes back to an older version.
  • Settings > Updates shows your version, has "Check now", and lets you turn automatic checks off. Each check asks GitHub, where the releases are published (privacy policy).

Combat replays like the game

  • Attacks fly to their target and back, the target shakes when hit, deaths fade, summons slide in and the board closes the gap, at the game's own pace (0.5x to 4x still there).
  • Things that happen at the same moment play together, as in the game: a start-of-combat buff to the whole board, deaths at once, a deathrattle's summons.
  • Each damage says where it came from (the attack, or the card and how it fired: start of combat, deathrattle, avenge, rally, hero power, trinket).
  • Keyword marks drawn like the game's: Taunt shield, Divine Shield bubble, Venomous vial, Deathrattle skull, Reborn, Stealth and Windfury; a keyword gained or lost during the combat shows on that step.
  • Summoned minions appear in the slot the game gives them, and a Duos board coming in is no longer drawn reversed.

Game recap

  • Turn damage shows as green +X and red −X badges.
  • In Duos, a turn's detail shows your teammate's board beside yours.

Finding the game

  • The app finds the Hearthstone folder on any drive and follows the install you actually play, and looks again while it runs.
  • Settings > Hearthstone folder shows the folder in use and how it was found, with "Choose…" to pick it yourself and "Back to automatic". If the game is running from another folder, the app asks whether to use it.
  • No more console windows flashing on screen while the app looks for the game.

Overlay

  • In windowed mode the overlay now stays inside the game's picture instead of covering its title bar. Windowed sizes keep their own saved layout; full-screen layouts are unchanged.

Error log

  • The app keeps an error log on your PC (logs\app.log in its data folder, three small files at most), with BattleTags, account ids, emails, keys and your Windows user name removed before anything is written. Settings has "Open log folder", and the file "Report a problem" saves includes its newest lines (the preview shows them first; nothing is sent).

Signing in

  • "Sign in with your browser": the app now opens a page on tavernledger.net to ask for your sign-in link, with Cloudflare's anti-robot check. Already signed-in apps stay signed in.

Security and robustness

  • Safer handling of damaged or unusual log files and saved data.
  • The upload sign-in is only ever sent back to the server that issued it.
  • Each window can only use what it needs.

Still the same

  • Not signed yet. Windows SmartScreen warns about the installer: click "More info", then "Run anyway", only for the file from this release.
  • Per-user install, no administrator rights. Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
  • Your history stays in %APPDATA%\TavernLedger; installing, updating and uninstalling never touch it.

Tavern Ledger 0.1.0 (beta) for Windows

First installer of the Tavern Ledger desktop app, a Hearthstone Battlegrounds tracker. Pre-release for beta testers: expect rough edges and please report problems (the app's "Report a problem" button, or a GitHub issue).

Download: TavernLedger_0.1.0_x64-setup.exe below. SHA-256: e52f3a76a4ffb7717f017e431a6e56df7d86826e95d0372e75f5e3215e9386ee.

Please read before installing

  • Not signed yet. Windows SmartScreen warns about unsigned files from new publishers. Click "More info", then "Run anyway", only for the file from this release. Code signing is not decided yet.
  • Per-user install, no administrator rights: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Tavern Ledger. Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Needs Microsoft Edge WebView2 (preinstalled on Windows 11; the installer fetches it from Microsoft if missing).
  • No automatic updates. Install a newer version over this one to update; your games and settings stay.

What it does

  • Follows the game's Power.log and saves each Battlegrounds game on your PC (%APPDATA%\TavernLedger) as soon as it ends: place, hero, boards, tribes offered, combat replays.
  • Shows your history and stats per mode (Solo and Duos), per hero and per tribe.
  • An optional overlay during a game with combat odds from the app's own simulator.
  • Optional upload to tavernledger.net once you sign in and turn it on.
  • Lives in the system tray; "Start with Windows" is off until you turn it on.

What it reads

The game's log files and, for the overlay, where your pointer is over the game window. Only if you turn it on in Settings (off by default), two values the game shows you (the lobby's tribes and your own rating), read-only from memory; this goes against the letter of Blizzard's EULA, and the app explains the risk first. It never changes the game or its files. Privacy policy.

Uninstalling

Settings > Apps > Tavern Ledger > Uninstall. Your history in %APPDATA%\TavernLedger is kept; delete that folder by hand to remove it. The uninstaller's "Delete the application data" box removes only the app's window cache, never your games.

Known limits

  • Windows only.
  • In Duos, some of your teammate's combats never appear in the game's log, so they are missing from the replay.
  • Combat odds are an estimate: cards the simulator does not model yet are marked, and the accuracy page shows how often it is right.
