@KNIGHT-AI-AV KNIGHT-AI-AV released this 17 Oct 02:46

The microphone now closes when you let go of the key, or as soon as the word you were saying ends.

  • After you let go of the key, the microphone stays open only while you finish the word you were saying. Before, it often stayed open for about half a second after every dictation, and what it heard then could end up in your text.

On the Mac, local speech recognition runs on the processor, the update check offers only updates your computer can install, and a dictation that fails on the graphics card is finished on the processor.

  • On the Mac, local speech recognition runs on the processor instead of Core ML. It gets ready in seconds and needs far less memory.
  • The update check offers only an update your computer can install. Mac users on 0.4.170 may have seen an update offer they couldn't install; 0.4.173 fixes it.
  • When local speech recognition fails on the graphics card, your dictation is finished on the processor instead of failing, and the processor is used until you restart the app.

Formatting keeps the writing model's answer more often, Paste last transcript pastes again, and words in your dictionary come out the way you saved them.

  • The meaning check accepts the writing model's answer when it matches what you said, writes a number or a date's ordinal as digits (5, $300, the 1st of May), or spells a word another common way, such as OK or okay, till or until, kinda or kind of, and yeah or yes. An answer that changes a number, a name or a negation is still refused, and your words are then kept with the built-in rules.
  • On Windows, Paste last transcript pastes even when you move the mouse right after clicking it. Before, it often only copied the text. A key press, a click, or switching to another window or field still stops the paste.
  • A word in your dictionary that speech recognition splits in two, such as OpenAI heard as "open AI", is written the way you saved it when the letters match exactly. Ordinary speech such as "please open AI settings" stays as said.
  • The Pill menu's Speech choice says Your key, as the Pill's switch, the setup window and the site do. A setup resumed from an older version names only the routes that exist, Local and Your key.

The Pill menu is redrawn, an update is one click from the Pill, and the Pill's update light rises out of it.

  • The Pill menu shows one line per item, the current Speech and Formatting choice on the right, and a waiting update as its first row, in your theme's accent (red when the update is required).
  • Install on that row starts the verified update at once and shows its progress on Home. An update that already downloaded in the background is not downloaded again.
  • Each submenu opens in a window its own size, keeps the edge next to the Pill in place, and slides in without a jump.
  • The menu opens on the monitor where you right-clicked the Pill, including monitors to the left of or above the main one, monitors with different or custom scaling, and stays on screen after a monitor is unplugged.
  • Speech and Formatting show their choices with a check, and choosing the current one changes nothing.
  • Arrow keys move through the menu, Right opens a submenu, Left and Escape go back, typing a letter moves to the next item that starts with it, and the focus outline appears only when you use the keyboard.
  • Messages on the menu appear on its title line or across the row you pressed.
  • Menu text stays readable at 4.5:1 in every theme, including the update row and error messages. In Windows contrast themes the menu's icons, check marks and update mark stay visible.
  • The Pill's update light sits in the Pill: it rises out when an update arrives, glows softly, and sinks back when it is gone. With animations off in Windows it only fades. A version you skipped shows no light and no menu row.
  • The Pill's idle animation now flows one way without reversing, and more slowly.
  • Pill messages wrap into even lines, blend into the Pill's colours at its end, and show errors without filling the whole message in red.
  • Formatting no longer announces when it kept the built-in rules; your words arrive the same way, and History notes it on that dictation. If the writing model keeps timing out or returning nothing usable, the Pill says so once, with what to change.
  • With Auto paste off, a formatting notice now appears after "Captured locally". Before, a meeting app, a hidden Pill or the next dictation could hide it.
  • In a terminal, the Pill says your text was typed only when it was. With Auto paste off, after Esc, or when only the copy worked, it says what happened.

Recording stays visible, menus close when you click away, and spoken corrections keep your final choice.

  • Common words such as would stay intact when a saved name merely sounds similar.
  • Windows updates and uninstalls only close a verified app in your own session and install folder, and leave copies in other Windows accounts running. If the app cannot be closed safely, the installer says so in one line and changes nothing.
  • Name repair and saved pronunciations preserve quoted examples and code.
  • Formatting notices belong to the current take and keep recovery messages visible.
  • Activity estimates stay open while their saved totals refresh.
  • Retrying a local recording keeps its chosen speech route and model even if settings change.
  • Local-only speech requests refuse outside providers, including between retry attempts.
  • Windows direct typing stops if its window loses focus and keeps the full result available without inserting it again.
  • Delayed transcript updates cannot restore Listening after recording ends or update a newer take.
  • Corrections inside complete quotations keep the quoted words, including contractions.
  • Automatic provider formatting recognises the key already chosen for speech.
  • Writing-model setup reports a failed start or an unfinished preparation and offers Retry with built-in rules available.
  • The Pill stays in its listening appearance while recording, even when startup notices arrive late.
  • Local captions discard old previews when a segment finishes and stop updating after recording ends.
  • Releasing the recording button keeps the Pill in processing when a delayed listening notice arrives.
  • The Windows Pill menu uses the display's physical coordinates when monitors have different scaling.
  • Clicking outside the Windows Pill menu closes it even when the web page misses the focus change.
  • Spoken corrections such as a dog, I mean a cat, I mean a lion keep the final choice.
  • Clear repeated-word stutters are removed while emphasis, quoted words and verbatim dictation are preserved.
  • Clear restarts such as oh wait, sorry, I meant keep the speaker's final statement.
  • Deliberate repetition and grammatical phrases such as what it is is keep their words.
  • Basic cleanup keeps the speaker's point of view and uncertainty, including inside quotations.
  • Completed quotations no longer receive an extra full stop.
  • Local and selected provider writing models cannot swap numeric assignments or add written precision while retaining the same values.
  • Local formatting retries share the remaining time budget instead of starting a second full wait.
  • The Pill identifies a safety fallback to Chill or rules without changing the saved writing style.
  • New and unspecified word-learning choices ask before saving a spelling; existing explicit choices remain.
  • Executive formatting sends a new sentence through its model instead of appending an unpolished rules result.

The default theme has a clearer name, and the Store notes cover every update you missed.

  • The default theme is now called Deep Teal. Your saved colours stay the same.
  • Microsoft Store update notes include changes since the version last published there.
  • The Store listing links to the Talk DAT! FAQ and declares that the app has no outside purchases.
  • Fixed checks that could block the public source export on licence texts and tests for files it does not include.

The Pill tells you things itself, looks sharper, and keeps your words safer.

  • Messages come from the Pill. It stretches to say what happened, in its own colours, then goes back to its normal size. It never takes the focus from the app you are typing in.
  • A word Talk DAT! learned, or an update that is ready, shows on the Pill with Undo or Install beside it.
  • In Settings, a button answers on its own face: Copy turns into Copied, and an error shows next to Retry on the same button.
  • The Pill has smooth edges on light backgrounds, and it draws each frame in about a third of the time.
  • Pressing Esc while your words are being processed keeps them. They go to the clipboard and History instead of being thrown away.
  • A click on the Pill while it is processing no longer cancels your dictation.
  • Windows shortcuts that start with Ctrl and the Windows key no longer turn on the microphone.
  • Press and hold the Pill to talk, and let go to finish.
  • Quit, Restart and updates wait a few seconds for a dictation to finish first.
  • A dictation that stopped on its own is only typed into the app where it started.
  • A backslash in a word or snippet no longer breaks dictation.
  • If the settings file cannot be read, it is kept aside instead of being replaced.
  • Nothing is kept from a dictation into a password field.
  • History off and Clear history now clear the text everywhere it was stored.
  • A dictation that fails is kept in Recovery until you deal with it.
  • Apps that read the clipboard slowly now get your dictation, not your old clipboard.
  • Settings buttons respond when you hover and press, windows close with a short animation, and text is easier to read in every theme.
  • Every part Talk DAT! includes now ships with its licence text.

Status on the Mac keeps its permissions checklist.

  • On a Mac, Status in Help lists each macOS permission Talk DAT! needs,
whether it is granted, and what stops working without it. If one is
missing, Open System Settings takes you straight to it.

Signing in and Status now look like the rest of Talk DAT!.

  • Sign in on the Account page itself. Type your email, get a six-digit code
and type it in, or sign in on the website. Signing out is on the same page.
  • Status from the tray opens Help, which shows what Talk DAT! is doing right
now and what is using the microphone, with a Panic stop button.
  • Fixed: the Scribe page showed garbled characters where "..." and an
    apostrophe belonged.
  • Punctuation across the app is plain and consistent.

Updates now happen on Home.

  • When a new version is ready, Home shows it: what changed, the size, and the
checks Talk DAT! runs before installing. Install now, Later, Skip this
version and View on GitHub are all there, and the download progress shows
in place. This replaces the separate Update window.
  • While an update is installing, Home stays open until it is done, so the
install cannot be cut off halfway.
