Music Disc Maker v2.2.3
- Fixed the reason a track failed not showing up. The Golden Jukebox and the Music Disc Maker now show a short reason on screen when a disc will not play, instead of failing with no explanation. This was announced in an earlier update but had never reached this Minecraft version.
- When YouTube refuses a track, the disc can now be made from SoundCloud or Bandcamp instead. Music Disc Maker checks the length so a different recording, shortened version, or preview is not used, and shows the chosen source in the disc tooltip.
- Failure reasons are now accurate. A source that answered with an error no longer looks like a network or DNS problem, and a source blocking the connection is no longer described as YouTube doing it.
- Fixed a startup library unpack failure preventing every later playback attempt until the game was restarted.
- Albums and repeat no longer pause to load between tracks. The next track is fetched and buffered before the current one ends.
- Fixed the maker showing a generic error when the source refused the track, and fixed the failure text not responding to the mouse on its second line.
- Fixed the whole game freezing when a track changed. Track changes could hold up all sound and game activity while music finished, started, or waited for audio. Those waits no longer block the game.
- Fixed a SoundCloud preview-only link producing a disc that goes silent partway through. A preview-only track reports its full song length even though SoundCloud only streams the opening part, so the disc played briefly and then fell silent with no explanation. These links are now recognized and rejected up front with a clear reason, whether pasted directly, found in a playlist, or picked up while searching for another source.
- Fixed a disc sometimes staying silent with no reason shown on screen. Taking it back out and putting it in again usually made it play, but the first attempt could give up without saying why. The disc now plays through instead, and if it truly cannot play, the reason is shown.
1.20.1 / 26.1.2 / 26.2 / 1.21.11: all of the above.
1.21.1: most of these arrived in 2.2.2. New here are the SoundCloud preview-only fix and the silent-disc fix.
Music Disc Maker v2.2.2
- Fixed YouTube playback after YouTube changed the connection it accepts. Tracks that suddenly would not play now use a different YouTube connection and play again. Spotify links also keep their own search path, so they no longer turn into audio from a different source.
- Fixed the whole game freezing when a track changed. Track changes could hold up all sound and game activity while music finished, started, or waited for audio. Those waits no longer block the game.
- When YouTube refuses a track, the disc can now be made from SoundCloud or Bandcamp instead. Music Disc Maker checks the length so a different recording, shortened version, or preview is not used, and shows the chosen source in the disc tooltip so everyone hears the same audio.
- Playback failures now appear on screen instead of in chat. The Golden Jukebox and Music Disc Maker show a short reason; playback with no screen writes it to the log, with the full detail still available there.
- Failure reasons are now accurate. A source that answered with an error no longer looks like a network or DNS problem, and bot check messages no longer imply that only servers can be affected.
- Albums and repeat no longer pause to load between tracks. The next track is fetched and buffered before the current one ends, so the wait to look it up is gone. Silence that is part of the recording itself, such as a few quiet seconds at the end of a song, still plays out as it was recorded.
- Custom discs now play in Additional Additions' Pocket Jukebox.
- Fixed a startup library unpack failure preventing every later playback attempt until the game was restarted.
- Made the Music Disc Maker failure message easier to read and kept the failed URL after its screen is closed.
- Fixed Create contraptions and airships leaving music stopped forever after one failed attempt.
v2.2.1
Music Disc Maker v2.2.1
-
Fixed the Golden Jukebox showing no track length and an empty progress bar for vanilla and other mods' discs. The length was there all along, the jukebox just wasn't reading it. Scrubbing still only works on custom discs.
-
Fixed a hopper under the Golden Jukebox not pulling the disc out when the track ended. Like a vanilla jukebox, the Golden Jukebox powers the block below it while a record plays, which switches a hopper off. It was measuring "still playing" against an internal placeholder rounded up to the next ten seconds — up to an hour for a disc of unknown length, and forever on a radio stream — so the hopper stayed switched off long after the music stopped. It now goes by the track's real length. Repeat and albums still hold the hopper off while they are actually playing.
-
Fixed the elapsed time and progress bar drifting behind the music. The readout was counting game ticks, so it fell behind whenever the server dipped below 20 ticks per second and then jumped to catch up (about four seconds adrift over a four-minute track). It now follows the same clock as the audio.
-
Fixed custom discs not playing in a normal jukebox when Additional Additions is installed. The disc showed as playing and stayed silent, with no error. This has been broken since 2.0.0 for anyone running Additional Additions.
-
Fixed crackling and jumping stereo with directional audio turned off. Moving around while looking about made the sound break up and flick between left and right. It now plays as a flat, non-positional sound the way vanilla background music does, and fades in and out at the edge of the audible range instead of cutting.
-
Additional Additions albums now work in the Golden Jukebox. Albums could already hold custom discs and play them in a normal jukebox, but the Golden Jukebox refused to take them at all. It now plays through an album track by track, shows which track is playing, and repeat loops the whole album. Comparator output follows the current track.
-
Custom discs now play in [Let's Do] Furniture's gramophone. They could be inserted before, and the gramophone acted like they were playing, but no audio came out. Repeat works too, and breaking the gramophone stops the music for anyone still listening.
v2.2.0
Music Disc Maker v2.2.0
- Fixed YouTube playback that could stop working entirely until you restarted the game. Occasionally YouTube would reject the connection Music Disc Maker was using to resolve a link; once that happened, every YouTube link — new and old — kept failing, and the only way back was restarting the game (which also restarts the mod). Failed connections are now swapped out and retried automatically instead of getting stuck, and playback now only uses YouTube backends that can actually stream audio: most of the previous defaults couldn't play anything at all, and one of them would resolve a link successfully and then fail partway into playback, which made the underlying problem easy to miss.
- Playback failures now tell you why. When a disc won't play, the reason stays in chat and in the log instead of flashing past on the action bar: YouTube asking this connection to sign in (bot check), age-restricted or region-locked videos, private or deleted videos, unsupported links, network/DNS trouble, or hitting the concurrent-playback limit. This covers playback from backpacks and from Create contraptions too, which previously failed silently or with no reason given.
- Directional audio toggle, on the Golden Jukebox. Off plays the track at a flat volume anywhere inside the audible range instead of changing with distance and direction, like background music, and still cuts out once you leave the range. On (the default) is the usual positional sound.
- Custom discs are much louder. They were quieter than vanilla records at every setting, and pushing the Golden Jukebox volume slider past 100% didn't help. Playback now has its own gain stage with a soft limiter, so custom discs sit at vanilla level or above out of the box — nothing to configure.
- Fixed discs restarting from the beginning. A disc left in a jukebox after its track had finished would start over from the top for anyone entering the chunk — after dying and teleporting back, relogging, or a chunk reload — and could leave the same track playing twice at once.
- Traveler's Backpack support. Custom discs now play from Traveler's Backpack's jukebox upgrade slot, the same as Sophisticated Backpacks.
- Updated the YouTube resolver to youtube-source 1.18.2.
- Fixed the backpack Stop button doing nothing while a track was still loading, which could leave music playing after you stopped it, or start two tracks at once if you pressed Play twice.
- Fixed playback bookkeeping not being released when a dimension unloads.
- Server and client now need matching mod versions. A 2.1.0 client can no longer connect to a 2.2.0 server (or the reverse) — the mismatch is now rejected outright instead of causing unpredictable behavior, so make sure both sides are updated together.
Builds in this release: NeoForge & Fabric for 1.21.1 / 1.21.11 / 26.2, NeoForge for 26.1.2, Forge & Fabric for 1.20.1.
On 1.21.11, Traveler's Backpack support is NeoForge only.
v2.1.0
2.1.0
- Minecraft 26.2 support on both NeoForge and Fabric.
- Golden Jukebox: changing a jukebox's audible range now takes effect live, without interrupting the track that's playing.
- Updated the YouTube resolver, fixing tracks that failed to load with an "Offline" error.
v2.1.0 is now available across all lineages. The live audible-range update and the YouTube resolver fix apply to every version; mod-compatibility additions differ by version:
- 1.21.1 (NeoForge / Fabric): custom disc audio follows Golden Jukeboxes assembled onto moving Create contraptions and Create Aeronautics physics airships.
- 1.20.1 (Forge / Fabric): custom disc audio follows jukeboxes riding Valkyrien Skies 2 ships (works with Eureka! and Clockwork), plus Create contraption support on Forge.
- 26.1.2 (NeoForge): live audible-range update and YouTube resolver fix.
v2.0.1
Music Disc Maker 2.0.1
- Fixed SoundCloud tracks playing at half speed and an octave low (stereo audio was mislabeled as mono).
- Golden Jukebox: range changes now apply immediately while playing, and on 1.20.1 songs now end properly (comparator resets, note particles and sculk vibrations added).
- Failed YouTube links now show the real reason (e.g. "Login wall" when YouTube blocks the server's IP) instead of a generic "Offline".
- Long track names now wrap in the disc tooltip, and the cover-art preview was removed from the maker screen (it overlapped the UI).
- The creative tab now shows "Music Disc Maker" untranslated, plus small translation completions across all languages.
Music Disc Maker v2.0.0
Music Disc Maker v2.0.0
- New Golden Jukebox: a gold-crafted jukebox with in-game controls for audible range (16-256 blocks), volume, repeat, and play/stop.
- Radio discs: internet radio (Icecast/SHOUTcast) and YouTube live URLs now make endless discs that show LIVE and reconnect automatically. Twitch is not supported.
- Discs now show the track's cover art in the tooltip and in the maker's preview.
- Failed links report a reason (unavailable, geo-blocked, age-locked, offline, or unsupported) instead of a generic failure.
- Rename discs on an anvil.
- Additional Additions albums now play the real audio of custom discs.
- Sophisticated Backpacks jukebox-upgrade support.
- Recipes now appear in the recipe book.
- Stability and security improvements, including audio resuming after you rejoin a world.
