New features

• Windows installer. SBP now ships a proper installer that sets it up for everyone on the computer and creates both Start Menu and desktop shortcuts. The portable version (zip) is still available if you prefer to run SBP from a folder without installing.
• Open M4B files directly. During installation, SBP can register itself as the program for .m4b audiobook files. With this on, pressing Enter on a .m4b file in File Explorer starts it playing in SBP immediately. You can leave this off during setup if you'd rather keep your current program.
• Smarter Check for Updates. SBP now knows whether you installed it or are running the portable version. Installed users get the new installer (upgrade in place by running it — settings, bookmarks, and positions are kept); portable users get the portable zip.
• Expanded user guide covering the Windows "unknown publisher" SmartScreen prompt, the M4B file association, and how updating works for each version.

Notes

• The installer is not yet digitally signed, so Windows may show a blue "Windows protected your PC" message the first time you run it. This is expected — choose More info → Run anyway to continue. Step-by-step instructions are in the user guide.

What's new in v1.4

New features

• Check for Updates — Help > Check for Updates connects to GitHub Releases, shows the latest version and release notes, and lets you download the new zip directly from within SBP.
• Improved M4B chapter support — chapters are now read directly from the file's raw atom data, handling both the iTunes chapter list format (chpl) and the QuickTime chapter text track format used by many tools including Libation. Many files that previously showed no chapters or wrong chapters should now work correctly.

Bug fixes

• Fixed seeking announcing the wrong time — pressing left/right arrow now correctly speaks the position you seeked to instead of the previous position.
• Fixed NVDA announcing "panel" when opening a book.
• Fixed chapter detection showing the wrong chapter number for the entire book when timing data could not be read from the file.

Installation

Download sbp_release_v1.4.zip, extract it, and run SBP.exe.
