Folduo Fold8 v79 — stable glass effect
Experimental Fold8 app animation with stable text and icons, progressively frosted glass, and a clear hinge edge.
Install
- Download Folduo-Fold8-0.1.27-fold8.38.apk from Assets below and install it on your Fold8. Only the APK is required; source-code ZIP files are for developers.
- Install and start Shizuku, then authorize Folduo and allow it to display over other apps.
- Close and unlock the phone, open Folduo Fold8 Test, and tap Start animation. Open your usual apps normally.

Included
- Original glass renderer with native Gaussian frost. Text and icons keep their width while blur and shading increase toward the free edge. No external shader download or foldtoduo shader is included.
- Normal Start/Stop and notification controls, with no trial timer.
- Blur strength, responsiveness, outer-screen fade, and Reset settings.
- Existing launcher, saved wallpapers, and app task continuity retained. The inner display uses Folduo's Home, Recents, and Back gestures while active.
Status and limits
Tested on Galaxy Z Fold8 SM-F971U, Android 17 / One UI 9. Other devices and firmware are unverified. Both displays remain available while active, which uses extra battery. Transitions use frozen images; protected content cannot be captured. Stop Folduo before uninstalling. Restart Shizuku after reboot.
The app captures screen images in memory while enabled and unlocked. It does not save or upload them and has no Internet permission. This pre-release uses the existing development signing key and the upstream package ID. It updates matching locally installed builds; differently signed builds cannot update each other. Permanent release signing/identity remains future work.
Validation: 56 JVM tests and eight on-device rendering tests, including full-panel reversals, width preservation, clear endpoints, settings, and layout exchange. The physical Twitter comparison confirmed stable text and a more glass-like appearance. Normal Start/Stop/Resume/update-restore behavior was verified in v77 and is unchanged. This remains a visual approximation; alternate settings and broader app/device compatibility need further testing.
