TouchDeck v1.2.0

@Keralots Keralots released this 27 Oct 17:26

New features

  • Daily wallpapers: the Glass theme can show a fresh set of Windows Spotlight pictures every day (4-16, landscape, portrait or both), downloaded at a chosen hour. "Both" mixes them with your own pictures.
  • Photo frame: a new Screen sleep mode. When idle, the tiles fade away and the deck shows full-screen pictures from the wallpaper gallery with a clock. A tap or someone arriving brings the tiles back. At night it runs at the night brightness.
  • microSD storage: wallpaper galleries can live on a microSD card (Display > Glass wallpaper), with room for a larger daily archive.
  • Tile animations: Display > Animations offers Calm, Water, Glass and Heavy presets next to Classic, or Custom to pick the touch, on/off, page change and card effects one by one.
  • Bambu Lab printers from Home Assistant: a printer can be read from the Bambu Lab integration instead of LAN MQTT. No IP, serial, access code or LAN mode needed.
  • Printer look: redesigned AMS cards (filament colour, remaining level, active slot) and progress hero with a moving nozzle and a readable "ETA 12:58". With "Printer animations" on, temperatures glow while heating and frost while cooling, and the filament tile shows a turning spool and extruding print head.
  • Vibration feedback: a vibration motor module on a free GPIO pulses on tile taps (Screen & light).
  • Companion Wallpapers page: downloads Spotlight pictures and sends a folder of your photos to the deck, prepared on the PC in a fraction of the time.

Improvements

  • Animations run at about 50 fps instead of 30, and frames are built on both cores.
  • In the Glass theme, detail cards open about 3x faster.
  • Half-height printer tiles (temperatures, layer, light) fit in one row.
  • A printer's tiles keep their state through a short link drop instead of going offline.
  • A blank tile label (a space in the portal) now leaves the tile without a name.

Bug fixes

  • Opening the portal often dropped a printer's LAN connection (the deck ran short of internal RAM). Now rare.
  • Wide chart rows of Home Assistant tiles stopped well short of the value.
  • With night brightness at 0%, taps reached tiles on the dark screen.

Compatibility

  • A firmware update keeps the configuration and pairings. Animations stay on Classic until you change them.
  • The companion's Wallpapers page needs companion 1.2.0; everything else works with companion 1.1.0.

Files

  • TouchDeck-v1.2.0-full.bin - full image (bootloader + partitions + app). First flash over USB at 0x0.
  • TouchDeck-v1.2.0-ota.bin - app only. Upload in the portal under Maintenance > Firmware update on a device that already runs TouchDeck.
  • TouchDeckCompanion-v1.2.0.exe - Windows companion for PC stats, PC control, Now playing tiles and wallpapers.

Flashing

New install: flash it straight from the browser at touchdeck.stolaris.dev (desktop Chrome or Edge). It writes the full image over USB and sets up WiFi in the same tab.

Update of a deck that already runs TouchDeck: upload TouchDeck-v1.2.0-ota.bin in the portal under Maintenance > Firmware update; pages and settings stay.

Manual flashing: see Flashing a prebuilt binary in the README, then First-run setup.

TouchDeck v1.1.0

@Keralots Keralots released this 21 Oct 19:25

New features

  • Now playing tile: the PC's current track with cover art, title, artist, a progress bar and previous / play-pause / next buttons. Tiles of 2x2 and up show everything; smaller tiles show the track and toggle playback on a tap. "+ Add now playing" in Pages & tiles. Needs companion 1.1.0 (cover art and progress come from the Windows companion).
  • Home Assistant over MQTT: with a broker (for example the Mosquitto add-on) set under Advanced, the deck appears in Home Assistant as a device. It has the screen as a light (on, off, brightness), the shown page as a select, night mode as a switch, a touch sensor (on for 60 s after a touch), a message entity that shows a notification on the screen, the status LED as a light, RSSI, IP and a restart button. Automations can wake the screen on motion, switch pages or send "Laundry is done" to the deck.
  • Screen sleep: after a set time without touch and without presence, the screen fades out or dims. Presence is up to four Home Assistant entities (motion, occupancy, a person) and optionally a PC online. Someone arriving wakes the screen, also after Off in the quick panel.
  • Several values on one HTTP sensor tile: up to four rows, each with a label, a bar and a value, for related readings from the same reply. A row can show other text next to its bar, such as a countdown to the next reset.
  • Tile looks: per tile background, "on" fill and "on" text colours, and in the Glass theme its own glass and "on" opacity.
  • Tiles without an icon: pick "None" in the icon picker.
  • Duplicate page: copies the current page with its tiles and layouts.
  • Status LED night schedule: the LED has its own night start and end, independent of the screen.

Improvements

  • New portal page Screen & light (it replaces Hardware): day brightness, the night schedule, screen sleep and the status LED with its Home Assistant entity in one place.
  • The portal's files are now sent compressed, so pages download in less time and the firmware is about 45 KB smaller despite the new features.
  • Glass settings are shown only with the Glass theme, and long hints in the deck editor fold behind a "?".
  • Wide PC chart rows draw the chart closer to the value.
  • Long messages on the screen wrap onto several lines.

Bug fixes

  • Companion: when LibreHardwareMonitor started after the companion, every LHM metric stayed at 0 until the companion was restarted. It now picks LHM up as soon as it answers.

Compatibility

  • Update the firmware and the companion: the Now playing tile needs companion 1.1.0.
  • A firmware update keeps the configuration and pairings. Settings from the Hardware page move to Screen & light as they are.
  • The LED's night dimming keeps working as before: it takes the screen's night times until you change them. The quick panel's Night button now dims only the screen.

Files

  • TouchDeck-v1.1.0-full.bin - full image (bootloader + partitions + app). First flash over USB at 0x0.
  • TouchDeck-v1.1.0-ota.bin - app only. Upload in the portal under Maintenance > Firmware update on a device that already runs TouchDeck.
  • TouchDeckCompanion-v1.1.0.exe - Windows companion for PC stats, PC control and Now playing tiles.

Flashing

See Flashing a prebuilt binary in the README, then First-run setup.

TouchDeck v1.0.1

@Keralots Keralots released this 19 Oct 15:44

New features

  • Conditional tiles: a tile can show only while the PC is on, only while it is off, or only while a Home Assistant entity is (or is not) in a given state. A hidden tile leaves its cell free, so two tiles can share one place, for example volume buttons while the PC runs and a PC power switch there while it is off. Set it under the tile's "more options" ("Show"); "Preview" above the grid switches between the cases while you place tiles.
  • Conditional pages with auto-switch: a whole page can follow the same conditions. With "Switch to it when it appears", the deck slides to the page when the condition starts to hold (a PC stats page when the PC comes on) and back to the previous page when it stops.
  • PC volume slider: "+ Add PC volume" adds a slider for the PC's master volume. Drag sideways to set the volume, tap to mute.
  • Pair a PC with a tap: "Pair for control" in the companion now shows Allow / Deny on the deck instead of a code to type. If the deck ever loses the pairing (for example after a full flash erase), the companion notices and the deck asks for Allow again by itself.

Improvements

  • When pages are rebuilt (a condition changes, a printer powers on or off), the deck stays on the page you are looking at.

Bug fixes

  • The web portal could take several seconds to load a page. WiFi power saving delayed the transfers; it is now off.
  • Exporting the configuration (Maintenance > Backup) could reboot the deck when the deck had several pages.
  • Companion: PC tiles could stop updating over WiFi with many metrics selected, because packets over 1460 bytes were dropped by the deck.
  • Companion: it used about 30% of one CPU core while idle (volume polling). Now about 1.5%.

Compatibility

  • Update both the firmware and the companion: the volume slider and tap pairing need companion 1.0.1. An older companion still pairs with the code shown on the deck.
  • A firmware update keeps the configuration and existing pairings.

Files

  • TouchDeck-v1.0.1-full.bin - full image (bootloader + partitions + app). First flash over USB at 0x0.
  • TouchDeck-v1.0.1-ota.bin - app only. Upload in the portal under Maintenance > Firmware update on a device that already runs TouchDeck.
  • TouchDeckCompanion-v1.0.1.exe - Windows companion for PC stats and PC control tiles.

Flashing
