Four backend/ modules were rewritten by a tool that decoded them as cp1252 and
re-encoded as UTF-8, double-encoding every non-ASCII character and adding a
BOM. Spanish strings and emoji rendered as mojibake. Restored from git and the
3.10.24 fix reapplied without touching their encoding.
