Musicly 1.3.4 — Jam from anywhere

One download for every phone. There's now a single file, Musicly-1.3.4.apk, that works on all Android phones (Android 7 or newer). It installs over any earlier Musicly — nothing is lost. (Some phones said "App not installed" when the wrong one of the two older files was picked.)

Also fixed (1.3.3): online Jams could show the song with no sound for friends, because the file hosts used to share songs didn't work on some networks. The host's phone now tries several free hosts (Litterbox, Uguu, tmpfiles), checks that the song link really works before friends get it, and remembers which host works on your network. If something still goes wrong, both screens say exactly why, with Try again.

New: online Jams. Listen together with friends who aren't in the same room. Everyone hears the host's songs on their own phone, in step.

  • Host: tap the people icon on Home → Start a Jam → Online — anywhere. Tap Copy invite and send it to friends in any chat.
  • Friends: open Jam, type the code under Have a code? and tap Join. The music starts on their phone, in step with the host. They can turn Listen on this phone off to just follow along.
  • Friends can add songs from the host's library or send their own. The host can let friends control playback.
  • How it works: messages go through the free ntfy.sh relay, and songs are shared as private links on free temporary file hosts (Litterbox, Uguu or tmpfiles) that delete themselves within 12 hours. There's no account and no server of our own. Online Jams use internet data: the host uploads each song once, and each friend streams it.

Same-room Jams still work without internet: same Wi-Fi or the host's hotspot, and the music plays from the host's phone.

Everyone needs Musicly 1.3.3 or newer. Updating? Just install over the old version — nothing is lost.

How to install

  1. Tap Musicly-1.3.4.apk below to download it.
  2. Open it. If Android asks, allow "Install unknown apps" for your browser or Files app.
  3. Tap Install.

Still says "App not installed"? Your phone may have a very early test version of Musicly signed differently. Back up first (Library → Backup & restore), uninstall Musicly, then install this file and restore.
