Dolphin RTX Remix v0.0.7

GameCube/Wii emulation with real path tracing through RTX Remix.

This build adds a custom Dolphin video backend that sends game geometry and materials to the NVIDIA RTX Remix runtime instead of rendering them through Dolphin's normal rasterization backends.

This is an unofficial, experimental build and still very much a work in progress.

Requirements

  • Windows 10/11 64-bit
  • An RT-capable GPU
    • RTX 2000 series GPUs and newer
    • AMD RX 6000 series GPUs and newer
    • Intel Arc A series GPUs
  • A controller ideally
  • Your own dumped GameCube/Wii games. No games are included.

Installation

  1. Download Dolphin-RTX-Remix-portable-v0.0.7.zip (336 MB).
  2. Extract it into its own folder. The archive does not contain a wrapper directory, so don't extract it directly into Downloads.
  3. Run Dolphin.exe.
  4. Add your games from Games\ or point Dolphin at your existing game directory.
  5. Start a game. The Remix backend is already selected.

Press Alt+X in-game to open the RTX Remix developer menu.

The build is fully portable. Dolphin's settings are stored in User\ next to the executable rather than %APPDATA%, and the Remix runtime creates its configuration files alongside the build on first launch.

What's new in v0.0.7

There are 22 changes since v0.0.5, with most of this release focused on fixing incorrect colours, textures, HUD rendering, and camera behavior.

If a game previously rendered flat white, solid black, or with obviously wrong materials, it's worth trying again.

Color and materials

Several rendering bugs came from the backend assuming a draw's texture would always come from TEV stage 0. A lot of games don't work that way.

This caused issues such as:

  • Super Mario Galaxy: Mario could render with a white mask while his actual texture went unused.
  • Skyward Sword: environment-mapped geometry could turn into flat solid colours.
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker: toon-shaded characters could render flat yellow.
  • Incorrect handling of Color0 / Color1 texgens.

Those cases are now handled correctly.

Alpha-tested materials also work properly now, so foliage, fences, hair, and similar geometry should cut out instead of appearing as solid rectangles.

Per-pixel stencil effects are also preserved when translating draws to Remix.

HUD and UI

Several major UI problems are fixed:

  • Fixed Skyward Sword sometimes rendering a solid black screen with only the HUD visible.
  • Fixed the Mario Kart: Double Dash!! overlay rendering solid white over the game.
  • Fixed extremely slow menu rendering at high resolutions. In F-Zero GX, the menu rasterizer could previously take around 84 ms per frame at 2560 pixels wide.
  • Fixed a use-after-free in the UI rasterizer.

Camera fixes

  • Fixed games such as Sonic Unleashed showing a magnified top-left portion of the image when an off-screen render pass happened before the main camera.
  • Mirrored cameras now preserve their reflection correctly.
  • Fixed incorrect aspect-ratio handling.

Switching games

When using the Remix backend, Dolphin now automatically restarts itself between games.

The Remix runtime only initializes some per-game state — including folders, overlay state, and input hooks — once per process. Restarting Dolphin is currently the most reliable way to make sure every game gets a clean Remix session.

So when you stop one game and launch another, expect a brief Dolphin relaunch.

Diagnostics

RemixLogStats now reports live texture, material, and mesh counts along with their memory usage.

This makes leaks much easier to spot: if one of those totals keeps increasing after a scene has settled, something is probably being retained that shouldn't be.

The full list of changes is in CHANGELOG.md inside the archive.

Known issues

  • Super Monkey Ball: the title/menu 2D layer still has some minor layering problems. The game itself is playable.
  • See §5 of the bundled README.md for the backend's other known limitations.

Do not replace the bundled Remix runtime

This backend depends on a custom dxvk-remix ABI and will not work with a stock RTX Remix runtime.
