Highlights in 0.2.8

  • Better suggestions with OpenRouter, OpenAI-compatible services, Anthropic and Ollama. These providers now report how likely each folder is, as TypeSafe Jev already did. Before, every note looked like a close call: Organize inbox pre-checked nothing and the pill always listed alternatives. Now clear suggestions are pre-checked, and alternatives only appear when the model is unsure. Suggestions you saved earlier keep working; choose Analyze again on a note to get the new scores.
  • Works with more services. If a service doesn't support structured output, Homing retries that request once in plain JSON mode. The retry counts as one more request.
  • A cleaner Analyze inbox notes dialog, in the same style as the link card: note count, requests per note and requests left today at a glance, and each note's folder and date in the list.
  • In the default theme, note titles and Change in Organize inbox no longer look like grey buttons.
  • Link underlines look the same across supported Obsidian versions.
  • Release files now carry GitHub build provenance. Check them with gh attestation verify main.js -R KineiChou/obsidian-homing.

Install

Update Homing from Settings → Community plugins, or download main.js, manifest.json and styles.css below into <your vault>/.obsidian/plugins/homing/. Requires Obsidian 1.11.4 or later on desktop.

Highlights in 0.2.7

  • Finds your folders after a restart. Right after Obsidian started, filing could report "no eligible destination folders" and drop saved suggestions until a folder changed. Fixed.

  • Attachments move with the note. When Obsidian keeps attachments next to notes (same folder or a subfolder), filing moves the note's inbox attachments too, into the matching place at the destination. Only attachments no other file uses move. The pill shows how many will move before you confirm, and Undo moves them back. Attachment folders are no longer offered as filing destinations.

  • New folders get a second look. Creating a folder that can hold notes re-analyzes existing suggestions once in the background (automatic filing only). The current suggestion stays until a new one arrives.

  • Link and unlink from the keyboard. New commands: Link or unlink at cursor… (homing:link-menu) opens a keyboard list of actions, and Remove link at cursor (homing:unlink) turns a link back into its text. No default hotkeys. Map them in Vim with Vimrc Support:

  • A lighter link card. Title and actions share one row, with a small Link button and icon buttons. For ambiguous mentions, clicking a candidate links it.

  • The filed pill stays on one line for long folder paths.

  • 重启后能找到目录：修复了 Obsidian 刚启动时归档提示“没有可用的归档目录”、已保存建议丢失，直到目录发生变化才恢复的问题。
  • 附件随笔记移动：Obsidian 的附件位置设为“当前文件所在文件夹”或“其下子文件夹”时，归档会把笔记在收件箱里的附件一起移到目标处对应的位置。只移动没有被其他文件引用的附件；确认前胶囊会显示将移动的数量，撤销时一并移回。附件文件夹不再出现在归档目标中。
  • 新目录后重新判断：新建可归档的目录后，已有建议会在后台重新判断一次（仅在自动归档开启时）。新结果出来前，原建议保持不变。
  • 键盘建立、取消链接：新增“在光标处建立或取消链接…”（homing:link-menu）与“取消光标处的链接”（homing:unlink）。默认不绑定快捷键，可用 Vimrc Support 映射到 leader 键，示例见上方。
  • 更轻的链接卡片：标题与操作在同一行，小号“链接”按钮配图标按钮；有歧义时点选候选即链接。
  • 归档完成的胶囊在目录路径较长时保持单行。

What Homing does

Homing files inbox notes into the folders you already have, and links mentions to the right notes as you write. Nothing moves and no link is inserted until you confirm it.

Highlights

  • File from the editor. A small pill in the note's top-right corner shows the suggested folder, in every view mode. Confirm, pick another folder, undo, or jump to the next inbox note, all without leaving the note.
  • Organize inbox, anywhere. Review every destination in one dialog and file several notes at once. Or right-click notes and the inbox folder in Obsidian's file explorer or in Notebook Navigator.
  • Analyze on open. Opening an inbox note that has no suggestion yet analyzes that note once.
  • Local-first link suggestions. Title, alias, plural and keyphrase matches, with Chinese word boundaries, are found locally and never make a request. Clear matches are linked directly. Ambiguous ones are checked by the model only when you hover them, and the answer is cached per sentence.
  • [[? queries. Type [[?keyword|display text to search note titles, aliases and title keyphrases, with one model recommendation after you pause. A standard link is inserted only when you pick a row.
  • Bring your own model. TypeSafe Jev, OpenRouter, OpenAI-compatible services, Anthropic, or a local Ollama, with a daily request cap.
  • Renamed from Note Organizer. Homing now ships under the Apache-2.0 license.

Install

  1. Download main.js, manifest.json and styles.css below.
  2. Put them in <your vault>/.obsidian/plugins/homing/.
  3. Enable Homing in Settings → Community plugins.

This release requires Obsidian 1.11.4 or later on desktop.

Upgrading from Note Organizer: on first start, Homing imports its settings and history read-only from .obsidian/plugins/note-organizer/. Then disable and remove the old plugin.

Privacy and cost

The provider you choose receives only what an analysis needs: the note being filed, or the sentence around an ambiguous link, plus candidate folder or note metadata. The README lists exactly what is sent and when. Hosted providers may charge per request. Homing collects no telemetry.
