A menu bar app that keeps your MacBook awake with the lid shut. No external display needed.

Click the cup to toggle. Full cup means the Mac stays awake with the lid closed. Right-click for the menu: the same toggle, a Launch at Login checkbox, and Quit.

Quitting always restores normal sleep, so the laptop cannot end up cooking in a bag.

Install

Apple Silicon, macOS 13 or later.

  1. Download Sidamo-1.0.0.zip, unzip it, and drag Sidamo.app to /Applications.
  2. Double-click it. macOS will block it.
  3. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the bottom, and click Open Anyway.

The app is ad-hoc signed but not notarized, because notarizing needs a paid Apple Developer account. That is why macOS asks. On macOS 13 and 14 you can right-click the app → Open instead; that shortcut was removed in macOS 15.

The first time you toggle it on, macOS asks for your administrator password once. Sidamo uses it to install a rule at /etc/sudoers.d/sidamo granting exactly two passwordless commands: pmset -a disablesleep 1 and pmset -a disablesleep 0. Nothing else gains any privilege. Every toggle after that is silent.

See the README for the CLI, headless and ssh install, and how to uninstall.
