1.2.1

Patch release.

  • Status bar now shows the app version — the current version (e.g. v1.2.1) is displayed, always visible, on the right of the status bar in both the Windows and Linux builds. The version is stamped centrally, so the binary and the displayed number always match the release.

No functional changes to chat parsing, translation, or the startup seed from 1.2.0.

Downloads

  • Windows — CS2ChatTranslator-1.2.1-win-x64.exe, self-contained, no .NET install needed.
  • Linux — CS2ChatTranslator-1.2.1-linux-x64, self-contained; run chmod +x CS2ChatTranslator-1.2.1-linux-x64 after download.

Unsigned single-file builds are routinely flagged by SmartScreen/Defender — that's expected for this kind of binary.

1.2.0

What's new in 1.2.0

Feature: startup chat seed

  • Start the tool mid-match and the feed is no longer empty — it now shows and translates the last ~25 chat messages from the current CS2 session right away, then continues live.
  • Bounded by design: it reads only a 1 MiB tail window of console.log (never the whole history) and staggers the initial translations, so the keyless Google Translate endpoint isn't hit with a startup burst.
  • Switching the configured console.log path mid-session re-seeds the feed from the newly selected log's recent messages.

Security fix

  • Pinned Tmds.DBus.Protocol to 0.21.3, closing advisory GHSA-xrw6-gwf8-vvr9 (a high-severity D-Bus issue pulled in transitively via Avalonia). This only affected the Linux build at runtime. The 1.1.0 Linux binary still bundles the vulnerable 0.20.0 — Linux users should move to this build.

Release binaries now carry the version and platform in the filename:

  • Windows — CS2ChatTranslator-1.2.0-win-x64.exe, self-contained, no .NET install needed.
  • Linux — CS2ChatTranslator-1.2.0-linux-x64, self-contained; run chmod +x CS2ChatTranslator-1.2.0-linux-x64 after download.

Unsigned single-file builds are routinely flagged by SmartScreen/Defender — that's expected for this kind of binary.

1.1.0

What's new in 1.1.0

Features

  • Reply to chat from the app — click a message in the feed, type a reply, and it's translated back into the sender's language and written to a cs2_translator_reply.cfg that CS2 executes via a keybind (bind F8 "exec cs2_translator_reply"). No memory access or input injection — just a cfg file the game runs itself.
  • Incremental chat rendering in both the WinForms and Avalonia feeds — messages and their translations update in place instead of rebuilding the whole feed, so no flicker and far fewer allocations.

Performance & reliability hardening

  • TranslationService — single-flight coalescing of concurrent identical lookups, a bounded FIFO result cache, a 30 s negative cache for failing phrases, and a 256-char length guard, all to avoid hammering the keyless Google Translate endpoint.
  • ConsoleLogTailer — stateful UTF-8 decoding (no more garbled characters when a codepoint is split across a read boundary), a 64 KiB partial-line cap to prevent unbounded growth on a newline-free stream, and a race-free shutdown.
  • ConfigStore — atomic config writes and retry-on-transient-IO, so a momentary file lock (AV, indexer, another instance) never resets your settings to defaults.

Downloads

  • Windows — CS2ChatTranslator.exe, self-contained, no .NET install needed.
  • Linux — CS2ChatTranslator.Avalonia, self-contained; run chmod +x CS2ChatTranslator.Avalonia after download.

Unsigned single-file builds are routinely flagged by SmartScreen/Defender — that's expected for this kind of binary.

Add cross-platform Avalonia build for Linux support

Extract services and models into a new net10.0 CS2ChatTranslator.Core
library so the WinForms Windows project and a new Avalonia project can
share them. Avalonia app runs on both Linux and Windows; WinForms project
is unchanged beyond swapping its inlined code for a Core reference. Tests
retarget net10.0 and reference Core, dropping their Windows dependency.
SteamPaths helper centralizes Windows / Linux Steam library probing.
