v2.3.0
Highlights
Listening in the house, and household members
- Listening in the house: people who opt in (off by default) see what the rest of the household is playing or just listened to, and only books they can reach themselves. It's reciprocal: you see others only while you share.
- Household members: anyone (not just the admin) can add kids and grown-ups from the player as real accounts, with no invite. A kid signs in on the owner's device in kids mode; a grown-up gets a pairing QR. Each member sees either everything the owner can listen to, or only the collections the owner shares with them. Admins see households grouped on the People page and can turn the feature off or limit who may add members.
- Cast to a Chromecast from the players: the server mints a short-lived token that streams only that one book.
The phone apps on a self-signed server
- Out of the box the server uses its own certificate, which browsers let you accept but the phone apps can't. The port now also answers plain HTTP to devices on your home network (and sends everyone else to HTTPS), and pairing links tell the apps that address, so app 2.1 connects at home with no setup. Away from home still needs autocert or a reverse proxy.
- It's on by default and off when you supply your own certificate (
tls.cert_file). Turn it off with Plain HTTP at home (Server > Settings > Network & HTTPS) orAUDIOSILO_TLS_HOME_HTTP=false. Plain HTTP isn't encrypted, so sign-ins at home travel in the clear: the usual trade-off on a trusted home Wi-Fi.
Series
- Omnibus editions: a series number can be a range,
1-3. The book shows as #1-3, fills books 1-3 on the Series cards and in the player, and "next in series" continues with book 4. Community matches keep ranges too. - One series, any spelling: "He Who Fights With Monsters" and "...with Monsters" are one series everywhere, the Series page is paged and searchable, and Health lists series spelled several ways.
- Books in several series: "next" follows every series a book is in without stepping backwards, and making an other series the main one swaps the two.
- Series cards pick the right community rail for sub-series (Tiffany Aching, not all of Discworld).
Community metadata
- Mirror mode (
metadata.mode: mirror, Settings > Community metadata > Source): the server keeps a local copy of the community database (about 450 MB to download, 1.8 GB on disk) and answers lookups from it, so no book is looked up over the internet. - Fill in matched books (Health > Not matched): refreshes the details of books that already have an ASIN or ISBN, and overwrite replaces stale series instead of adding to them.
Fixes
- Duplicates: two books sharing an ASIN or ISBN were listed as "same title, author and length" even when their lengths were far apart. Health now says when books share an identifier, and warns (without suggesting which to keep) when their lengths differ: one may be matched to the wrong recording.
- Matching: a match is applied automatically only when the recording's length is within 10% of the book's; a dramatization no longer lands on an unabridged book unasked.
- The connect and setup pages now match the admin console's look (light and dark).
After updating
- Five database migrations (0041-0045) run on first start. The first start also stores a series key for every book, in one pass (a few seconds on a large library).
- Books whose files tag a series part like
1-3pick up the range after a rescan. - Plain HTTP at home is on by default on self-signed servers (see above).
Every change to the player API is additive, so existing iOS, Android and web players keep working. Connecting the phone apps to a self-signed server needs app 2.1.
Bundled web player:
- Listening in the house, profiles and kids mode, household members, Cast, series ranges, one request for the Series cards, the served player skipping the address step, and tab titles.
Native builds embed the web player; ffmpeg/ffprobe are found locally or
auto-downloaded on first use. Prefer Docker for advanced / multi-user
setups: ghcr.io/kodestar/audiosilo-server.
AudioSilo is free; sponsors keep it going:
