VelaHarness v1.1.4

Choose a tag to compare

@KryptonGao KryptonGao released this 12 Oct 12:59

Vela 1.1.4

Vela 1.1.4 adds custom light and dark themes, independent model and reasoning settings for the Resident Agent, and a more capable resident conversation view.

New

  • Make your own themes: Create light and dark palettes in Settings → Appearance with four colors: background, cards and panels, text, and accent. Name, edit, save, and delete your themes.
  • Preview your palette: Adjust colors with a picker or hex values and see a live conversation preview. A contrast hint helps you spot text that may be hard to read.
  • Choose a model for Resident Agent: Set a separate model and reasoning level for the resident conversation and its background tasks, or follow your new-conversation defaults. Your app-wide model settings stay unchanged.
  • A more useful resident conversation: Read Markdown, copy messages, and edit a previous user message to send it again. Resending creates a new message and keeps the existing history.

Improved

  • Idle resident conversations apply model changes immediately; conversations already replying apply them before the next submission.
  • Reasoning levels follow model support, and unavailable selected models report an error instead of silently switching.
  • Custom theme colors are restored at startup; deleting a selected custom theme falls back to the default palette.
  • Resident chat, task recipes, terminal controls, and activity indicators receive more consistent spacing and controls.

Upgrade

Installed copies of Vela 1.0.6 and later receive this update automatically: Vela downloads it in the background and prompts you to restart. Versions 1.0.5 and earlier cannot update themselves, so install this version manually once: quit Vela completely, replace the application with this version, and reopen it.

Keep your existing ~/.vela directory (or the directory specified by VELA_USER_DATA); no data reset is needed.

The macOS build is not notarized and uses an ad-hoc signature. If macOS blocks first launch, use Open Anyway in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Because the code signature differs between versions, macOS may ask you to confirm privacy or keychain access again after an update.

Package version: 1.1.4. macOS bundle and download version: 1.1.4.

Validation

  • Type checks and all 1,618 unit tests passed (pnpm test): 169 workspace, 577 agent, and 872 desktop tests.
  • All 42 targeted custom-theme and resident-execution tests passed.
  • All 29 in-app update tests passed (pnpm --filter @vela/desktop test:updates).
  • The production build passed (pnpm build).
  • The Agent Inbox and updates real-Electron UI suites passed, including resident model and reasoning controls and rendering in all five languages.
  • Twelve of fourteen real-Electron smoke suites passed. Task Recipes (missing Edit button) and PR Inbox (idle refresh timeout) failed on both this release and an isolated build of the unchanged 1.1.3 commit; these existing failures remain unresolved.
  • The packaged 1.1.4 app launched with isolated data, loaded release notes in all five languages, and passed custom-theme creation, application, reload persistence, deletion fallback, and release-card dismissal persistence checks.
  • The ad-hoc signed application bundle has version 1.1.4 and identifier com.vela.desktop; the ZIP contains only Vela.app, and the DMG mounted successfully with a valid application signature.
  • The updater verified the checksum signature against its built-in public key, and both package SHA-256 checksums matched.

VelaHarness v1.1.3

Choose a tag to compare

@KryptonGao KryptonGao released this 11 Oct 12:14

Vela 1.1.3

Vela 1.1.3 introduces a new illustrated welcome tour, an eight-step setup flow, and release highlights that are available offline in your language.

New

  • A new welcome tour: Meet Vela through an illustrated introduction, then explore parallel agents, execution traces, and compact conversations with screenshots from the app.
  • Eight steps to get ready: Choose your language, appearance, information layout, skills, model, permissions, memory and instructions, and background behavior. Optional steps can be skipped, and unfinished setup resumes where you left off.
  • What is new, right in the app: The welcome tour and the first launch after an update show release highlights from the installed app. Notes work offline and only appear when their version matches the app.
  • Replay the introduction: Open Settings → About & updates to revisit the introduction and current release highlights without changing your saved preferences.

Improved

  • Setup previews light and dark themes while keeping the illustrated guide readable in its own light palette.
  • The final setup page can open a project folder or take you directly to the relevant settings page.
  • Welcome, setup, and release highlights are available in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
  • Development settings include a way to restart onboarding without clearing saved preferences.

Upgrade

VelaHarness v1.1.2

Choose a tag to compare

@KryptonGao KryptonGao released this 11 Oct 05:52

Vela 1.1.2

Vela 1.1.2 adds task handoff packs and an outcome acceptance panel, making it easier to continue work in a new conversation and review what changed, what was verified, and what still needs attention.

New

  • Task handoff packs: choose Generate handoff pack… from the conversation actions menu after a reply finishes. Review the goal, confirmed decisions, changed files, recorded checks, and unfinished work; edit the summary and create a new conversation in the same workspace with the handoff text ready in its composer. You decide when to send it.
  • Evidence-based handoffs: changed files and verification results come from conversation tool records and file checkpoints. The conversation's model summarizes only the goal, decisions, and unfinished work; model-invented files and checks are discarded. If the model is unavailable or fails, Vela offers a pack built from recorded facts. Commands and output excerpts are redacted for sensitive values.
  • Outcome acceptance panel: a completed work reply can open an Acceptance tab in the workbench. Review each requirement alongside its changes, recorded verification evidence, and items that need confirmation. File links open the corresponding turn diff, and checks show their recorded command and output, with failures expanded by default.
  • Validated outcome references: agents can associate requirements with completed file edits and bash calls from the current user turn. Invalid references are rejected. The panel keeps failed, potentially stale, missing, and unassigned evidence visible; an agent's completion claim alone does not count as a passed requirement. Conversations without an explicit submission can show a conservative summary derived from recorded edits and checks.

Improved

  • A Jump to latest button helps return to the newest messages after scrolling away from a streaming reply.
  • Internal prompts for agent interactions, memory, scheduled tasks, text assistance, summaries, and operation risk review now use English, with response-language guidance retained where applicable.
  • Conversation export and turn review share file-diff helpers, and acceptance links can locate individual edits within a turn.
  • New handoff and acceptance interface text is available in Simplified Chinese, English, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

Upgrade

Installed copies of Vela 1.0.6 and later receive this update automatically: Vela downloads it in the background and prompts you to restart. Versions 1.0.5 and earlier cannot update themselves, so install this version manually once: quit Vela completely, replace the application with this version, and reopen it.

  • The production build passed (pnpm build).
  • All four targeted real-Electron UI suites passed: chat actions, outcome acceptance, handoff packs, and updates.
  • Eleven real-Electron smoke suites passed, including the new end-to-end handoff flow, Pi SDK compatibility, profile isolation, browser workflows, MCP, scheduled tasks, PR review responses, notification sounds, and settings.
  • The signed, packaged Vela 1.1.2 application launched and initialized its runtime using isolated test data.

VelaHarness v1.1.1

Choose a tag to compare

@KryptonGao KryptonGao released this 11 Oct 02:15

Vela 1.1.1

Vela 1.1.1 greatly extends Intelligent UI. Besides the declarative calculators and tables from 1.1.0, answers can now contain charts, diagrams, data tied to real tool results, richer views, and (optionally) sandboxed micro apps.

New

  • Charts and diagrams: bar_chart, line_chart and pie_chart accept literal data or data from a source. Every chart has a chart view and an accessible data table; the table can be copied as TSV and the chart saved as PNG. svg_diagram draws basic shapes and labels with clickable hot spots that only reveal explanations the model supplied. No scripts, event attributes or external resources are ever rendered.
  • Trusted data sources: an interface can reference a tool call that actually happened in the conversation and show its parsed result (JSON, CSV, lines or text) with its source and freshness (ok, loading, stale, error, empty). The model cannot invent data and label it as a tool result.
  • Richer views: timeline, itinerary (a position sketch only for stops with model-provided coordinates, clearly labelled) and diff_view. Chart points that reference number state can be dragged by mouse or keyboard to recompute derived values locally.
  • Continue and refresh: "Copy as text", "Continue with current settings", refresh-source and suggest-tool-call actions. All of them only compose a normal message to the agent after you confirm the text shown; the interface itself never runs tools, edits files or executes commands, and normal permissions and approvals still apply.
  • Micro apps (advanced, off by default): a separate vela-app channel for games, canvases and simulations, enabled under Settings → Conversation display → Interactive UI. Each app needs a click to run, lives in an opaque-origin sandboxed iframe with a strict CSP, no network, and no access to Electron, Node, the page or storage. It can only ask to submit or copy text through one-time, short-lived capability tokens, and each request needs your confirmation. Apps are stopped when idle, erroring, too long-running or out of view, and are never included in exports.
  • Local metrics and inspector: counts and durations only (no interface content, nothing uploaded), plus an inspector showing the validated tree, event timeline, state and sources. The inspector is on by default in development builds and opt-in in release builds.

Improved

  • Parser, expression and state handling for Intelligent UI are stricter and cover the new components and limits.
  • Conversation export includes charts, diagrams, sources and the new views as plain-text equivalents.
  • Interface text for the new features in Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

SHA256SUMS.txt.sig Ed25519 signature of SHA256SUMS.txt, verified by the in-app updater

Package version: 1.1.1. macOS bundle and download version: 1.1.1.

Validation

  • Type checks and unit tests for all workspace packages (pnpm test) passed: 169 workspace, 542 agent, and 830 desktop tests.
  • The in-app update tests (test:updates, 29 tests) passed.
  • The production build succeeded, and 11 of 13 real-Electron smoke suites passed. The Task Recipes and Pull Request Inbox smoke suites still fail; their scripts were not updated for the interface redesign in 1.0.5 and the failures are not caused by this release.

VelaHarness v1.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@KryptonGao KryptonGao released this 10 Oct 14:37

Vela 1.1.0

Vela 1.1.0 adds Intelligent UI and the Agent Inbox. Answers can now contain interactive native interfaces, and a new sidebar page gathers every approval, question and background result in one place, backed by an optional Resident Agent that works in the background.

New

  • Intelligent UI: the agent can embed calculators, comparison tables and step-by-step walkthroughs directly in a reply.
    • Interfaces are declarative data rendered with Vela's own components. HTML, scripts and JSX from the model are never executed.
    • Filters, sorting, tabs, sliders and checkboxes work instantly and locally. A button can send the current values back to the agent as a new message, but only after you confirm the text shown in the interface.
    • Every interface has View source, and an unfinished or invalid interface falls back to readable text.
    • Choose the behavior in Settings → Conversation display → Interactive UI: Auto (default), Text only, or Prefer visual. Only Agent mode is told about it; Plan and Goal stay plain Markdown.
    • Interfaces are included when you export a conversation.
  • Agent Inbox: a new top-level sidebar page that collects tool approvals, agent questions, failed turns and subagents, plans waiting for review, scheduled-task results and agent suggestions from all your chats.
    • Approve or deny a request, or answer a question, without opening its chat. The decision goes through the same path as in the chat, so answering in either place gives the same result; if the original request is already gone, the item is marked invalid instead of claiming it was approved.
    • Archiving only hides an item. It never approves, denies or unblocks anything, and the badge counts only items that still need you.
    • Pending approvals and questions cannot survive a restart, so they are marked invalid when Vela starts again.
    • Search, filter by type, a narrow-window layout, light and dark themes, and Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean text. The page can be hidden from the sidebar options.
  • Resident Agent: an always-on coordinator with its own persistent conversation. It has no file, command, browser or MCP tools; it can only list workspaces, tasks and inbox items, and delegate a background task to one registered workspace.
    • Every delegation asks for your approval first, even in the "approve for me" mode, and shows the target workspace and the task.
    • Modes: Off, Standby (default, never calls the model without a task) and Proactive.
    • Background tasks have a concurrency limit, a maximum run time and a queue. Tasks that were queued or running when Vela quit are shown as interrupted and are never replayed.
  • Proactive rules (Proactive mode only): run an analysis when an inbox item fails, when Git changes, or when workspace files change. Rules are read-only by default, never use Full access, are debounced and rate-limited with a per-day cap, and show why a rule did not fire. Each trigger calls the model and incurs cost.
  • Background running: closing the window keeps Vela running on macOS (configurable), with an optional menu bar icon, system notifications (once per item, quiet hours, grouped bursts, optional hidden content) and an option to start at login (installed build only).

Improved

  • Approval and question requests now report whether the original wait still exists, so a late reply is detected instead of being silently accepted.
  • Interface text for the new features in Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

Existing sessions, model accounts, workspaces, browser cookies and site storage, MCP servers, scheduled tasks, task recipes, the Pull Request Inbox, checkpoints, and logs continue to work. The Agent Inbox and Resident Agent create new files (agent-inbox.json, resident-agent.json) in that directory.

The macOS build is not notarized and uses an ad-hoc signature. If macOS blocks first launch, use Open Anyway in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Because the code signature differs between versions, macOS may ask you to confirm privacy or keychain access again after an update.

Package version: 1.1.0. macOS bundle and download version: 1.1.0.

Validation

  • Type checks and unit tests for all workspace packages (pnpm test) passed: 169 workspace, 487 agent, and 822 desktop tests, including the new Agent Inbox, Resident Agent and Intelligent UI tests.
  • The in-app update tests (test:updates, 29 tests) passed.
  • The production build succeeded, and 9 of 13 real-Electron smoke suites passed. The Task Recipes, Pull Request Inbox, Settings and Thinking blur smoke suites still fail. Task Recipes and Pull Request Inbox scripts were not updated for the 1.0.5 interface redesign; the Settings (scrollbar fade timing) and Thinking blur (animation value) checks fail identically on the 1.0.8 code, so none of the four is caused by this release.
  • The production DMG and ZIP builds, bundle and packaged version metadata, DMG mounting, archive integrity, and the signed SHA-256 checksums were verified.

VelaHarness v1.0.8

Choose a tag to compare

@KryptonGao KryptonGao released this 09 Oct 13:39

Vela 1.0.8

Vela 1.0.8 adds subagent controls: pause, resume or cancel any single subagent from the Agents panel, and see how many tokens and how much active run time each one has used.

New

  • Pause, resume and cancel a subagent: each subagent row in the Agents panel and in its own pane now has control buttons.
    • Pause takes effect before the subagent's next tool call, so a step already in flight finishes first. Until then the row shows Pausing; you can cancel the request with the same button.
    • Resume continues a paused subagent from where it stopped.
    • Cancel stops the subagent together with any subagents it spawned.
    • A paused subagent still counts as running: the chat cannot be edited or branched, a workspace-wide operation waits, and a recipe or scheduled run is not started while one is paused. Cancel it or resume it to finish.
  • Subagent usage: every subagent shows its accumulated tokens and active run time (paused and queued time is not counted). Hover the token count for the input, output, cache-read and cache-write breakdown. The panel header also shows the total tokens of all subagents and how many are still in progress.

Improved

  • MCP and Integrations settings for detached chats: when the selected chat's folder no longer matches the current workspace, these pages now manage the workspace directly instead of binding to that chat, which the main process used to reject.
  • Subagent history saved before this version loads normally. A subagent that was running or paused when Vela quit is shown as aborted.
  • New interface text for the subagent controls in Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

Upgrade

Installed copies of Vela 1.0.6 and 1.0.7 receive this update automatically: Vela downloads it in the background and prompts you to restart. Versions 1.0.5 and earlier cannot update themselves, so install this version manually once: quit Vela completely, replace the application with this version, and reopen it.

Keep your existing ~/.vela directory (or the directory specified by VELA_USER_DATA); no data reset is needed. Existing sessions, model accounts, workspaces, browser cookies and site storage, MCP servers, scheduled tasks, task recipes, the Pull Request Inbox, checkpoints, and logs continue to work.

The macOS build is not notarized and uses an ad-hoc signature. If macOS blocks first launch, use Open Anyway in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Because the code signature differs between versions, macOS may ask you to confirm privacy or keychain access again after an update.

Package version: 1.0.8. macOS bundle and download version: 1.0.8.

Validation

  • Type checks and unit tests for all workspace packages (pnpm test) passed: 166 workspace, 421 agent, and 687 desktop tests, including the new subagent control tests.
  • The in-app update tests (test:updates, 29 tests) passed.
  • The production build succeeded, and 11 of 13 real-Electron smoke suites passed. The Task Recipes and Pull Request Inbox smoke suites still fail: their scripts were not updated for the 1.0.5 interface redesign and are not related to this release.

VelaHarness v1.0.7

Choose a tag to compare

@KryptonGao KryptonGao released this 09 Oct 13:11

Vela 1.0.7

Vela 1.0.7 adds conversation export: save any chat as Markdown or a single self-contained HTML file, with tool calls, file diffs and the trace attached, so it is ready for a postmortem or for sharing with a teammate.

New

  • Export a conversation: the "More chat actions" menu in the chat header now has Export as Markdown… and Export as HTML…. Pick where to save (the Documents folder by default); Vela writes the file and reveals it in Finder. Both items are disabled until the chat has a message, and a failed export shows its reason in the menu.
    • What is included: title and metadata (chat ID, workspace, UTC timestamps, Vela version), an overview (turns, tool calls and failures, files changed, lines added and removed, and model requests, duration and tokens when a trace exists), failed and interrupted steps, a per-file change summary, the full transcript turn by turn with edit / write diffs and bash commands and output, the files each turn's checkpoint recorded as changed (which also covers files changed indirectly by bash), and the model-request table and node timeline from the trace. Thinking is not exported.
    • HTML export: one file with no scripts or external links. It follows the system light or dark appearance, collapses tool output and diffs by default, and opens or prints in any browser.
    • Redaction: the whole document is redacted before it is written. API keys and tokens, Authorization: Bearer headers, sensitive URL parameters and credentials in URLs, and NAME=value secrets are masked, and your home directory is shown as ~. Redaction is best effort, so check the file before sharing it, especially bash output.
    • Long content is truncated with the number of omitted characters, and headings follow the app language (Simplified and Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean).

Improved

  • Chat actions menu: arrow keys, Home and End now move between all menu items.
  • New interface text for the export actions in Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

Upgrade

Installed copies of Vela 1.0.6 receive this update automatically: Vela downloads it in the background and prompts you to restart.

SHA256SUMS.txt.sig Ed25519 signature of SHA256SUMS.txt, verified by the in-app updater

Package version: 1.0.7. macOS bundle and download version: 1.0.7.

Validation

  • Type checks and unit tests for all workspace packages (pnpm test) passed: 166 workspace, 414 agent, and 687 desktop tests, including the conversation export tests.
  • In the real-Electron renderer checks (test:ui), the chat actions menu (including the export items), plugins, memory settings, and update UI checks passed. The MCP settings check fails with or without this release's style changes.
  • The production DMG and ZIP builds, bundle and packaged version metadata, DMG mounting, archive integrity, and the signed SHA-256 checksums were verified.

VelaHarness v1.0.6

Choose a tag to compare

@KryptonGao KryptonGao released this 09 Oct 12:42

Vela 1.0.6

Vela 1.0.6 adds in-app updates: installed copies now check GitHub Releases in the background, download and verify new versions, and prompt you to restart. It also lets an Agent respond to pull request review comments from the Pull Request Inbox, and bounds the disk used by file checkpoints.

New

  • In-app updates: Vela checks the latest GitHub Release about 20 seconds after launch and every 4 hours after that, downloads the update automatically, and shows a "Restart now / Later" prompt when it is ready. Choosing "Later" installs the update when you quit Vela.
    • Signed and verified: each release ships a SHA256SUMS.txt signed with an Ed25519 key built into the app. Vela verifies the signature first, then checks the SHA-256 of the downloaded package, the bundle identifier, and the bundle version before installing. Anything that fails verification is rejected.
    • Settings → About & Updates: shows progress and release notes, has a switch for automatic updates, and a manual "Check for updates" button. The application and Help menus also have "Check for Updates…".
    • Safe replacement: the new version is copied next to the current one and swapped in, and the old copy is restored if any step fails. When Vela runs from a disk image, from a quarantined location, or from a folder you cannot write to, it tells you about the new version and links to the release page instead.
    • Development builds (pnpm dev) never check in the background.
  • Respond to review comments with an Agent: on your own open pull request, pick unresolved review threads and Vela creates a dedicated worktree and a new conversation to address them with local commits. You review the commits and the reply drafts, and only then does Vela push and reply. The Agent itself is not allowed to push, reply, or resolve threads; fork pull requests stay local-only, and pushes are never forced.
  • Checkpoint storage in Settings: Settings → Storage shows how much disk the file checkpoints use and has a clean-up button.

Improved

  • Smaller checkpoints: file contents are now stored once in a shared pool and shared between conversations, unchanged files are not re-read between turns, and large files are hashed as a stream. Each conversation keeps its latest 50 turns, with a 4 GiB cap across all conversations; older checkpoints are pruned automatically and a clean-up also runs shortly after launch.
  • Pull Request Inbox: refinements to the detail view and styling, and new interface text in Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

Upgrade

This is the first version with in-app updates. Versions 1.0.5 and earlier cannot update themselves, so install 1.0.6 manually once: quit Vela completely, replace the application with this version, and reopen it. From 1.0.6 on, updates arrive automatically.

Package version: 1.0.6. macOS bundle and download version: 1.0.6.

Validation

  • Type checks and unit tests for all workspace packages (pnpm test) passed: 166 workspace, 414 agent, and 669 desktop tests.
  • The in-app update tests (test:updates, 29 tests) passed, covering signature verification, tampered or unsigned packages, foreign download URLs, bundle identifier and version checks, the installer script, and the update UI in real Electron (test:updates:ui).
  • The Pull Request Inbox tests (test:pr-inbox, 46 tests) and the real-Electron review-response flow (test:pr-review-response:electron, with a real git repository and a fake gh) passed.
  • The production build succeeded, and 11 of 13 real-Electron smoke suites passed. The Task Recipes and Pull Request Inbox smoke suites still fail: their scripts were not updated for the 1.0.5 interface redesign (icon-only recipe buttons, aria-selected relation tabs) and are not related to this release.
  • The production DMG and ZIP builds, bundle and packaged version metadata, DMG mounting, archive integrity, and the signed SHA-256 checksums were verified.

Vela 1.0.5

Vela 1.0.5 makes the Pull Request Inbox feel instant by refreshing and preloading pull requests in the background from app start, and gives the Pull Request Inbox, Scheduled Tasks, and Task Recipes pages a cleaner redesign.

New

  • Pull Request Inbox opens from cache: Vela now warms the default list and the status of the newest pull requests shortly after launch, whichever page you are on, so the first open no longer starts from a loading skeleton.
    • Background preloading: pull requests you have not opened yet get their details and first activity pages (commits, comments, reviews, threads) loaded a few at a time, those needing your attention first and then the newest, so clicking one renders immediately while staying within GitHub's rate budget.
    • Always fresh: refreshing no longer waits for you to stop typing; only a hidden window pauses it, and returning to the window refreshes right away. Pull requests you viewed refresh every minute; preloaded ones you have not opened refresh every five minutes.
    • The in-memory cache holds more entries, and whatever is on screen is kept even when background refreshes touch many other pull requests.
  • Clearer checks in pull request details: failing, running, and cancelled checks are listed first with a summary count (for example "12 passed · 1 failed"), and passing checks are tucked into a collapsible group.
  • Relative update times: the inbox shows "3 days ago" style times for recent updates and a short date for anything older than a week, in the selected language, with the exact time on hover.

Improved

  • Pull Request Inbox layout: a sliding indicator on the relationship tabs, a tidier header and filters, and refined list and detail styling.
  • Scheduled Tasks redesign: two-column task cards with a status badge, a schedule / next run / latest run / workspace summary, a count of tasks, a friendlier empty state, and the task editor now opens as a modal dialog with focus on its first field.
  • Task Recipes redesign: a search box with source chips showing counts (All, Built-in, Mine, Project, Team), a history toggle, icon buttons, recipe cards with mode and source badges and tags, and clearer error, warning, and success banners, including a dedicated message when project recipes cannot be read.
  • Styling polish: small spacing fixes in the Usage page and the version-control panels.

Upgrade

Quit Vela completely, replace the application with this version, and reopen it.

The macOS build is not notarized. If macOS blocks first launch, use Open Anyway in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

  • The production DMG and ZIP builds, packaged-app startup, bundle and packaged version metadata, DMG mounting, archive integrity, and SHA-256 checksums were verified.

VelaHarness v1.0.4

@KryptonGao KryptonGao released this 08 Oct 14:38

Vela 1.0.4

Vela 1.0.4 adds three more interface languages (Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean) and a redesigned Settings page with search. The development build gains a fuller sync from the installed app with preview and one-click undo, plus a Developer tools page.

New

  • More languages: the interface now supports Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese (Taiwan), English, Japanese, and Korean. Pick one in Settings → Interface → Language; it applies to menus, dialogs, dates and numbers, and the text Vela asks models to write for you (commit messages, pull request descriptions, thinking summaries) follows the same language. Each language shows its own name in the picker.
  • Settings redesign: settings are now grouped by purpose in a left navigation (General, Agent, Models & extensions, Data & workspace, and Development in the development build) instead of one long page.
    • Search: type in the search box at the top of the navigation to find any setting by name, hint, or keyword in either Chinese or English. Use the arrow keys and Enter to pick a result; Vela jumps to the page, scrolls to the setting, and briefly highlights it.
    • Smaller pages: Appearance, Interface, Shortcuts, Agent defaults, Conversation display, Skills, Models, Workspace, Archived chats, and Logs each have their own page. Some paths changed, for example tool-call display is now under Settings → Conversation display and the language under Settings → Interface.
    • Scrollbars in the settings navigation and pages appear only while scrolling.
  • Sync from the installed app (development build): Settings → Developer tools → Sync production data can now copy more than chats, and you choose what to import:
    • Chats (messages, plans, sub-agent history, traces, file checkpoints), settings (sandbox mode, thinking effort, global instructions), models and accounts (default model and custom endpoint structure; API keys and OAuth tokens are never copied), Skills (including disabled state), MCP configuration (secret values in environment variables and headers are cleared and servers missing them are disabled), and memory.
    • Preview shows how many items each category will import and writes nothing.
    • Each sync is a batch recorded under the profile folder. Sync history can undo a whole batch: it removes the imported chats, Skills, and memory and restores changed settings, leaving settings you edited afterwards alone. A chat that is open or still running must be left first.
    • Set VELA_PRODUCTION_HOME if your installed app uses a custom VELA_USER_DATA.
  • Developer tools (development build): open the Renderer DevTools, reload the window, or restart the main process, and copy the Vela, commit, Electron, Chromium, Node, and V8 versions for an issue report.

Improved

  • Shared translation layer: all text now goes through one lookup, so remaining Chinese-or-English-only strings in menus, file pickers, error messages, the version-control panels, usage, task recipes, and the checkpoint timeline follow the selected language, with consistent date, time and number formats.
  • Development restart: restarting the main process under pnpm dev waits for the old process to release the single-instance lock instead of failing to start, and the old process now exits reliably.

Upgrade

Quit Vela completely, replace the application with this version, and reopen it.

Your language choice is kept; the default is still Simplified Chinese. Settings you had changed keep their values; only their location in the Settings page is different.

The macOS build is not notarized. If macOS blocks first launch, use Open Anyway in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
