Quick Start

Get from install to your first drink in a few minutes. Each step links into the Manual if you want more detail.

1. Install

Download the latest release for your platform from the GitHub Releases page, or get it on the iOS App Store. Full per-platform steps: Installation.

2. Connect your machine and scale

  1. Power on your DE1 and your Bluetooth scale.
  2. Fully close the DE1 app (de1app) if it was running — only one app can hold the Bluetooth connection at a time. (This is the #1 cause of "no device found.")
  3. Open Decenza. It scans automatically; the top status bar shows the machine and scale once connected.

Trouble connecting? See Troubleshooting.

3. Wake the machine

Tap the screen (or the machine's power button) to wake the DE1 from sleep. Give it a moment to heat to temperature — the status bar turns Ready when it's there.

4. Make your first drink — with a Recipe

In 2.0 the home screen leads with Recipes: a recipe is a whole drink saved as one tap — profile, beans, grinder, dose, yield, temperature, and any milk or hot water, all together.

The recipes-first idle screen: Recipes, Beans, Steam, and Hot water buttons with a Shot Plan summary below

If a recipe already exists (or you accepted the starter recipe on first launch): tap Recipes, then tap a recipe pill — it loads the entire drink onto the machine in one tap. Skip to step 5.

To build your first recipe, tap Recipes → Add: Recipe and walk the short wizard (it auto-advances as you tap, and the numbers come pre-filled):

  1. Drink type — Espresso, Latte/Cappuccino, Filter, Americano, Long black, or Tea.

Recipe wizard: choose a drink type

  2. Beans — pick a bag, or Add a new coffee. You don't have to type the details: search the coffee by name, or paste the roaster's product URL and tap Get info from page.

    Recipe wizard: pick a bag

  3. Profile — pick from Used with this bean → Recommended → All profiles.

  4. Details — dose, yield, temperature, and grind are pre-filled; adjust only if you want.

  5. Summary — review the card and tap Save.

Then tap the new recipe's pill to activate it.

Pull the shot:

  • On a machine with a GHC (group-head controller): press the espresso button on the machine.
  • On a headless machine: use the on-screen button, or press E on a keyboard.

Grind, dose your portafilter, lock it in, and go. Decenza stops at your target weight automatically.

5. After the shot

The post-shot review appears automatically:

  • Rate it with the slider.
  • If you have a DiFluid refractometer, tap Read TDS to log extraction.
  • Made a great shot from a plain profile? Tap the Recipe button next to Load (in Shot History or on the shot) to save it as a one-tap recipe for next time.
  • Tap AI Advice for dial-in suggestions (set up a provider in Settings → AI first).

6. Where to go next

  • Recipes — editing, cloning, tea, Americanos, and the whole-drink model in depth.
  • Profiles — the editors that control how a shot pulls (D-Flow, Pressure, Flow, Advanced).
  • Shot History — search, compare, and Visualizer upload.
  • Layout Editor — rearrange the idle screen, or restore the classic Profiles-led layout.

Welcome to Decenza. ☕
