RustyViewer v0.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 12 Oct 01:55

RustyViewer 0.3.0 adds native libmpv playback for recognized video formats on macOS and Linux, alongside image viewing and editing.

  • Play MP4, M4V, MOV, WebM, OGV, MKV and AVI in the native video window, with pause, seeking, volume, fullscreen and subtitle visibility controls.
  • Browse images and videos together. The Open dialog uses a combined filter, and switching to an image closes the video window.
  • RustyViewer is now GPL-3.0-or-later, with the original MIT notices retained.

Choose an installer

  • Tested Apple Silicon Mac: RustyViewer_0.3.0_macos27_aarch64.dmg requires macOS 27. Its libmpv libraries are included; users do not need Homebrew. It is locally signed, not Developer ID signed or notarized.
  • Tested Ubuntu 26.04 x64: RustyViewer_0.3.0_ubuntu26.04_amd64.deb. Install with sudo apt install ./RustyViewer_0.3.0_ubuntu26.04_amd64.deb to resolve system-library dependencies.
  • CI Apple Silicon Mac: RustyViewer_0.3.0_aarch64.dmg declares macOS 26 as its minimum. Its signature, bundled-library locations and source fingerprints were verified. Installation and playback on an actual macOS 26 machine remain untested.
  • CI Linux x64: RustyViewer_0.3.0_linux_amd64.deb is built on Ubuntu 24.04. Package contents and dependency resolution were checked on Einstein without replacing the tested Ubuntu 26.04 installation.
  • Windows installers are unsigned and use the webview for video; native libmpv playback is currently limited to Mac and Linux.
  • Intel Mac and Linux AppImage packages are paused until native-video packaging is verified.

Sources and validation

Use the application source archive for the RustyViewer source and locked Rust dependencies. The separate Mac source archives also contain the bundled native-library sources, patches, receipts and build recipes; choose the source archive matching your Mac binary. SHA-256 files accompany the locally tested packages and source archives. SHA256SUMS.txt lists GitHub-recorded digests for every installer, source archive and checksum sidecar.

All local tests passed, GitHub CI passed on Mac, Ubuntu and Windows, and every release workflow job completed successfully. Both the archived Mac application and the application source archive were rebuilt offline with fresh Cargo caches. A fresh rebuild of the complete Mac native-library chain remains unverified. No claim of compatibility with older macOS or Linux versions is made for the locally tested installers.

See README.md, CHANGELOG.md and third-party notices.
