Import your existing collection

Already track your shelf somewhere else? You do not have to re-add everything by hand. DVinyl can pull a whole collection in from a few external services, in one go.

Imports live in the admin page of a collection, under Imports from external services. They always add into the collection you are currently in, so switch to the right one first.

Note

Bulk imports are reserved for collection admins (Discogs is available to editors too). They can add a lot of items at once, so DVinyl keeps them behind the admin panel.

Music: Discogs

Bring in your Discogs collection or wantlist.

  1. Open the collection's admin page and find the Discogs import card.
  2. Paste your public Discogs profile URL (your collection or wantlist page, like https://www.discogs.com/user/yourname/collection).
  3. Choose the target: import into your collection or your wantlist (wishlist).
  4. Choose the mode:
    • Fast: covers and metadata only. Quicker.
    • Full: also fetches tracklists for every release. Slower, but complete.
  5. Start the import.

Tip

Your Discogs collection has to be public for DVinyl to read it. You can flip it back to private afterwards.

Music: Musik-Sammler

Coming from musik-sammler.de? Import its CSV export.

  1. On musik-sammler.de, go to Profile → Export, tick all the data boxes, pick the CSV format, and download the file.
  2. In DVinyl's collection admin, open Musik-Sammler and drop the CSV in.
  3. Pick whether it lands in your collection or your wishlist, and start.

Books: Goodreads

Import your Goodreads library through its RSS feed.

  1. On Goodreads, open your library and copy the RSS feed URL of your books (Goodreads profile → RSS feed of your library).
  2. In DVinyl's collection admin, open the GoodReads import, paste the RSS URL.
  3. Set a default format (paperback, hardcover, manga, comic...) used when a book's shelf does not make the format obvious, and optionally a default language (like fr, en, ja) for when it cannot be detected automatically.
  4. Start the import.

Note

Large libraries take a while: roughly 1 to 2 minutes for 200 books, up to about 10 minutes for 2000. The import runs in the background, so you can keep using DVinyl while it works.

After an import

  • Items land in the collection that was active when you started.
  • Re-running an import does not create duplicates of releases DVinyl can already match; it updates them instead.
  • Anything that could not be matched is simply skipped, so your existing items are safe.
