Rowd 0.5.0 alpha

Warning

Unstable alpha. Bugs may interrupt sync or require manual recovery. Do not rely on Rowd as the only copy of important files. Start with disposable folders and keep an independent backup.

Rowd syncs folders between one Linux PC and one Android phone on a local network. This release keeps the TLS connection open between rounds and lets watcher events focus the next round on a Share or path.

Changes

  • CREATE and MODIFY can use a small delta when both peers trust their caches and session token.
  • Android can resolve known file or directory notifications and reuse hashes during a namespace audit. A deep audit rehashes files after trust loss or on its longer schedule.
  • Transfers use a bounded FIFO pipeline. A verified staged file carries its hash proof through installation.
  • The session token stays in memory; each Share's base.json records convergence across restarts.
  • Metrics cover activation, scans, snapshot, transfer, installation, and base persistence.

DELETE, rename, restart, binding changes, and lost watcher or provider trust can still require a full scan. Rowd does not propagate deletions.

Downloads and compatibility

  • rowd-v0.5.0-linux-x86_64: Linux executable.
  • rowd-v0.5.0-android-arm64.apk: Android 8 or newer on ARM64. This APK uses a debug signing key.
  • rowd-v0.5.0-SHA256SUMS: hashes for both files.

Install the Linux binary and Android APK together. Network protocol V8 rejects older peers.

Validation

The Rust workspace tests, formatter, Clippy, Kotlin compilation, and Android debug build passed. The APK passed signature verification. The test suite covers CREATE in both directions, namespace collisions, lost trust, recovery, and TLS/HMAC. We have not documented a full test matrix across physical Android storage providers, long sessions, and network failures.
