Gewu Insight 1.0.0 — macOS
Gewu Insight is a desktop research workspace for collecting papers, organizing their files and versions, following new literature, and keeping reading notes alongside your research.
Research workspace
- Organize papers in Library folders, Shortcuts and Spaces.
- Keep manuscripts, published articles, supplementary files and notes together in Paper Files.
- Follow journals, subjects and authors, and manage My Publications.
- Read PDFs and Markdown, browse scholarly websites, and save supported papers into your collection.
- Connect compatible AI clients through MCP with explicitly scoped access and append-only analysis notes.
Requirements and installation
Requires macOS 14 or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel.
- Download Gewu-Insight-macOS-1.0.0.dmg from Assets.
- Open the disk image and drag Gewu Insight.app to Applications.
- Open Gewu Insight from Applications and choose a new or existing Gewu Database folder.
Python and application dependencies are included. The macOS package uses an ad-hoc integrity signature and is not Developer ID signed or notarized.
Program and database locations
- Program:
/Applications/Gewu Insight.app. - Gewu Database: a separate folder you choose at first launch.
Keep the database outside the App bundle. Replacing the App preserves the separate research collection. Before updating, quit the App and its service, then back up the complete selected Gewu Database folder, all additional managed roots and externally linked originals. Copying the program or SQLite alone is not a complete backup.
Help and license
Choose Help > User Guide for the bundled manual. Online literature services require internet access and remain subject to publisher and institutional access. Optional LibreOffice and TeX tools are installed separately.
The Gewu Insight Academic and Non-Commercial Research License and included third-party notices apply. Installer checksums and build information accompany the download. GitHub's Source code archives are for development; use the installer for your platform.
Bundled component versions, notice locations and pending documentation corrections are recorded in the installer component inventory. The existing installer assets are unchanged.
