What's new

• Your achievements, in the game. Pause, then click the right stick once: your RetroAchievements
  list opens right there, the ones you've unlocked in gold at the top, the rest with their progress
  where it counts something. Push the left stick to scroll smoothly; click again or press B to
  close. While the list is up, your stick and buttons don't touch the pause menu underneath. (Clicking
  twice fast while paused never switches Tabletop / Jumbotron.)
• The big screen always faces you when the game starts. If it had been turned away (with both
  grips) or left behind you, you could hear the game but see nothing, every time you started it. Now it
  turns to face you, and comes back in front if it was off to the side.

What's new

• Online matches stay in sync. After a goal, the two headsets could quietly start playing two
  different matches (a crowd chant or heckle on one headset nudged the game's random numbers, and an
  exploding sideline prop could go off for one player and not the other). From there on each player saw
  a different game, which felt like terrible lag. Sounds and show-only effects now use their own random
  numbers, and props explode the same for both players whatever view each is in.
• Less input delay online. The match measures your connection before it starts and sets the input
  delay from it. That measurement used to wait on the game's own frames (more so in Tabletop), so a
  good connection looked slow and the delay came out about twice what it needed to be. It now measures
  the network itself.
• Quest 2: the screen and scoreboard are back over the middle of the field, and the Super Strike
  meter pops up whole right above your captain, the same as on a Quest 3.

Online

Alpha 1.11 only plays alpha 1.11 in rooms, Quick match and tournaments (the fix changes how the
game picks its random numbers, so an older version would drift apart again). Make sure your friend
updates too. Same Version (Classic or Plus) as always.

What's new

• Super Strike meter on the table for everyone. On headsets without colour passthrough (Quest 2)
  the meter now also hangs over your captain on the table, like on a Quest 3, while the screen beside
  the field still shows the shot.
• The Tabletop screen stays put. It no longer rises during goal celebrations: the replay plays on
  the screen right where it always is (in Tabletop · Stadium the stadium's big screen still drops in
  from the sky). On a Quest 2 the screen keeps one spot beside the field instead of jumping between
  the side and the middle, and it no longer slides around the table when you move your head.
• The scoreboard faces you, so turning the table doesn't turn it.
• Goal scorers keep their distance: they never come closer than 2.5 m, even if you walk toward
  them, on the way in, while celebrating and on the way out.
• One click of the left stick does nothing now. It used to snap the table (or the big screen)
  back in front of you, and a hard push on the stick mid-match could click it by accident. The grips
  move the table and the screen, as before (the left grip grabs the table from anywhere).

Online

Alpha 1.10 plays alpha 1.4 to 1.9 in rooms and Quick match, and 1.5 to 1.9 in tournaments, on the

What's new

• Sticks that pick up every move. Your player now starts moving from the first little bit of
  push and runs exactly the way you point the stick, at any angle and any amount of push. The original
  game threw away small stick movements on each direction separately, so light pushes did nothing and
  a half-push at an angle snapped onto a straight line (players: "could not travel diagonally"). Same
  for the right stick, and for Bluetooth gamepads.
• Quest controllers and a gamepad together: whichever stick you're pushing further steers.

What's new

• Online: waits for your friend. Start your Grudge Match before your friend has joined and the
  game now waits on the loading screen, with a card showing your room code, until they join and start
  theirs. No more getting dropped into a match against the computer. Tired of waiting? Hold B for
  2 seconds to play the computer instead.
• Bluetooth controllers, fixed. A paired gamepad is now the same player as your Quest
  controllers: pick your side with it and it stays yours when the match starts, the arrow over your
  player stays, and it works online (before, a gamepad player never moved on the other headset).
• Long pass on one button. The Controls page has a new Long pass action: the game's L + A
  (the lob pass) from a single button. Give it any button you like.
• Your button map works on gamepads too: A/B/X/Y as labelled, LT/RT, RB (as the right grip) and
  Start (as the menu button).

What's new

• Tabletop goal celebrations: the table stays right where you put it. No more floating up out of
  the way. The scorer runs in and celebrates life-size right beside the table, a different side
  each goal, with their banner overhead.
• RetroAchievements, more game files: NKit files (.nkit.iso, .nkit.gcz) of the USA game are
  now recognised.
• RetroAchievements tells you why: if your game file isn't one RetroAchievements supports, the
  pop-up in the headset and the app's RetroAchievements page say why (another region, another dump,
  or an unpacked folder) and show your file's ID. RetroAchievements supports one copy: Super Mario
  Strikers (USA), the standard dump, as .iso, .rvz or .wia.

About hardcore mode: RetroAchievements only allows it in apps it has officially approved, so
achievements here count in casual mode. That's their rule, not a setting in the app.

What's new

• Button mapping. Press Controls on the first screen, tap an action (pass, shoot, use item,
  hit, swap items, L, R, pause) and then the Quest button you want for it. A button that's already
  in use swaps over. Changes apply right away, even with the game running. Back to the default
  buttons puts everything back.
• RetroAchievements. Press RetroAchievements on the first screen and log in with your
  retroachievements.org account. You earn the site's official Super
  Mario Strikers set (40 achievements) as you play:
  • A gold pop-up in the headset for each one, with a small buzz, and it goes straight to your
    RetroAchievements profile.
  • When the game starts, a pop-up shows how many you have.
  • The page in the app lists the whole set and what you've unlocked.
  • Only a login token is kept on your Quest, never your password.
  • Achievements count in casual mode. RetroAchievements only allows hardcore on apps it has
    approved, so you'll see a warning about that on the site; your casual unlocks still count.

What's new

• Tournaments. Press Tournaments on the first screen and join a 4-player or 8-player
  knockout. The page shows how full each one is and who's in, and it starts by itself when it's full.
• Your team. Type a team name and pick a star player (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Wario,
  Waluigi, Yoshi or Donkey Kong) as your team's logo.
• Playoff tree. Every match with both teams' logos, names and scores, lines to the next round,
  and the champion at the end. Your matches are highlighted.
• Matches start themselves: a 10-second countdown to your match, each one a normal Grudge Match
  in its own room. Results report themselves when the match ends, and you come back to the tree.
• Fair play: a draw, or two headsets that disagree on the score, means a replay; leaving counts
  as a loss; if your opponent never turns up you can claim the win after 5 minutes.
• Bluetooth controllers: in Tabletop the arrow over your player now follows whichever controller
  is playing (a Bluetooth pad shows up as Player 3 and had no arrow).
• Tabletop: when the table floats up while the scorer celebrates, the bottom of the field is solid
  instead of see-through.

What's new

• Voice chat in online matches. Turn it on with Voice chat on the app's first screen (the
  first time, allow the microphone). Off until you turn it on; you can switch it off again in the
  game's pause settings.
• Quick match. No friend online? Press Quick match and you're paired with anyone else
  searching on the same Version. Then both: Grudge Match, pick your team, start.
• Fresh room code every time you press Host.
• Less input lag. The big screen in your room shows a newer picture, the 3D views reach your eyes
  a frame sooner more often, the stick responds to smaller pushes, and online matches add less delay
  on a good connection.
• Smoother online matches. Opening the Quest menu, loading the match, or switching views no
  longer makes the 3D view drop to half its frame rate for the rest of the match.
• Pause settings: right stick up/down picks crowd volume, voice chat or stadium height, and
  left/right changes it. Stadium height lifts (or lowers) your view in the life-size stadium, for
  playing seated or if you're shorter or taller.
• Celebrations, cleaned up. Confetti, signature pieces and the hat-trick hats rain down from the
  sky and fade where they land: no more heaps.
• Plus: every scorer runs out at their own height (Waluigi and Donkey Kong 6'5", Luigi 6'0", Mario
  5'8", Toad 4'8"...) and stays on the ground. They're solid (no seeing through them in your room),
  confetti bounces off them and their banner instead of passing through, and in Tabletop the table
  floats up out of the way while they celebrate.
• Quest 2: in Tabletop the Super Strike shows on a screen beside the table (on Quest 3 you watch
  it on the table itself).

Online

Both players need alpha 1.4, and the same Version (both Classic or both Plus). Alpha 1.4 can't
play alpha 1.3 or older.

What's new

• Smoother stadiums. The headset now draws both eyes in one go. Tabletop · Stadium went from
  about 46 to about 60 frames a second, Jumbotron · Stadium from about 49 to about 57. The game's own
  speed is unchanged.
• Classic or Plus. A new Version button on the first screen. Classic is the game as
  alpha 1.2 had it. Plus is everything below, things that aren't in the original game. You can
  switch any time before you press Play.
• Plus: a life-size goal scorer. Whoever scores runs out into your room (or onto the stadium
  pitch), stops out in front of you, and waves and dances, while the replay screen rises up above
  them.
• Plus: "GOAL SCORED BY" banner over the scorer's head, with their goals and assists this game.
• Plus: hat tricks. Three regular goals by one player in one game and hats rain down all over the
  field. A Super Strike worth two goals counts in the stats but not towards a hat trick.
• Plus: longer goal replay that keeps playing through the celebration.
• Plus: a living crowd. Louder in close games, quieter in blowouts, a roar on every goal, and in
  the stadium the crowd sounds come from the stands around you. Crowd volume (0 to 10) is in the
  pause screen, on the right stick.
• Move the big screen by hand. Left grip moves it, both grips resize and turn it, and it stays
  where you put it.
• Confetti now lands on the scorer instead of passing through.

Online

Both players need alpha 1.3, and the same version (both Classic or both Plus). Alpha 1.3 can't
play alpha 1.2 or older.
