@LayerMakerLab LayerMakerLab released this 09 Oct 07:38

Mouthy 0.1.1. A smoother first minute on the Mac.

  • Setup opens whenever macOS hasn't been asked about the microphone yet, and lets you pick which microphone to use.
  • If macOS never answers a microphone request, Mouthy no longer waits; it opens the Microphone settings instead.
  • Faster audio capture, lower idle CPU, and safer typing on Windows.

Mac users on 0.1.0 get this automatically. Windows and Linux are unchanged from 0.1.0.

Mac: open the ZIP, drag Mouthy into Applications and open it. Allow the microphone and Accessibility when asked, then double-tap the right ⌘ and talk; ⌃⌥Space and Hold Fn are in Settings → Shortcut. Press Return while you talk to send what you've said so far, and Mouthy keeps listening. Later versions install themselves.

Windows: unzip, right-click install-windows.ps1 and choose Run with PowerShell. Press Ctrl+Alt+Space and talk. If Windows says it protected your PC, choose More info → Run anyway (Mouthy isn't code-signed on Windows yet).

Linux: unpack and run ./install.sh. Press Ctrl+Alt+Space and talk. On Wayland, install wl-clipboard and wtype and bind a key to mouthy --toggle.

What's in it

  • Mac app with Apple Speech, NVIDIA Parakeet v3 and OpenAI Whisper; Windows and Linux app with Parakeet v3 and Whisper. Every engine runs on your computer.

  • Spoken punctuation, "scratch that", filler removal, replacements and code dictation.
  • Modes per app or website, vocabulary, meetings and file transcription.
  • An MCP server so AI agents such as Claude Code can ask you a question and hear your spoken answer.
  • On the Mac: a notch hub with timers, notes, music and your calendar, and "Only listen to my voice".
