fefix 26.09.2

26.09.2 (2026-09-17)

fefix is a fork of Helix. This release turns the file explorer into a persistent file tree window with batch delete and move, and migrates the workspace to Rust edition 2024.

Breaking changes:

  • The [editor.file-explorer] mode option is removed. Enable the file tree
window for the explorer commands with [editor.file-tree] enable = true
    instead.

Features:

  • The file tree supports batch deletion: Space toggles path-based marks,
Alt-Space clears them, and d / Delete confirms deletion of the marked
entries (or the cursor entry when no marks exist). Marks survive navigation,
filtering, and refresh; failed deletions remain marked.
  • The file tree can move marked entries (or the cursor entry) to a directory:
m opens a destination bar prefilled with the selected directory itself when
the selection is a directory (so Enter moves the entries inside it), or with
the parent otherwise; relative destinations resolve against the tree root, and
Enter moves the marked files and directories there, reparenting them and
their loaded descendants in the tree.
  • The file tree tracks the disk: expanded directories are re-read
automatically (throttled, and on entering the filter), so files created or
removed by other processes show up without a manual refresh.
  • Opening a filtered file from the tree (/ then Enter) opens the visible
match instead of a selection the filter hid.
  • The file tree can rename the selected file or directory: r opens an
    inline bar prefilled with the name (Enter confirms, Esc cancels);
directory contents and tree paths are rewritten in place. Refresh moves to
    R.
  • The file tree can delete the selected entry: d (or Delete) removes the
file or directory (recursively) and moves the selection to its replacement.
A second press confirms the deletion; any other key cancels it.
  • The file tree is part of the window navigation: C-w w / Space-w w
rotates it into the window cycle, C-w h / Space-w h jumps to it as the
leftmost window, and C-w l (or C-w w) from the tree returns to the
    editor.
  • ? while the file tree window is focused opens a which-key style popup
listing every tree binding; pressing any key closes it and runs that
    binding.
