WhisprStream 1.0.0

WhisprStream is a native Apple-silicon macOS dictation app that transcribes locally and inserts text at the cursor.

Highlights

  • Private on-device transcription with MLX and Qwen3-ASR
  • Hold-or-toggle global dictation shortcut
  • Guided first-run engine and model installation
  • Separate, verified speech-engine download that survives app updates
  • Engine repair and scoped cleanup for interrupted model downloads
  • English, Chinese, and smart bilingual handling for short dictation
  • Voice shortcuts, vocabulary hints, spoken-number formatting, and context-aware capitalization
  • Settings for models, sound, shortcuts, permissions, engine health, and updates

Requirements

  • Apple-silicon Mac
  • macOS 14 or later

Installation

Download WhisprStream-macos-arm64.zip, move WhisprStream to Applications, and open it. This build uses a stable self-signed code-signing identity and is not Apple-notarized, so the first launch may require System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.

The app downloads the verified speech engine during setup, followed by the speech model you select. Audio and transcripts remain on your Mac.

This release is initially marked as a prerelease while the downloadable artifacts complete clean-Mac qualification.
