Software engineer shipping back-end APIs at 100k+ insurance quotes/day (TypeScript, GraphQL and Node.js on AWS) and, independently, large cross-platform C# / .NET systems — including a published cross-IDE extension with 749 tests at 100% coverage. Four years' commercial experience at Liberty IT (Liberty Mutual) following a placement year there; comfortable owning features end to end, from technical approach through testing to release.

Belfast · August 2022 – Present
- Own and evolve internal back-end APIs (TypeScript/JavaScript, GraphQL on Node.js) on the Quoting Platform — collectively serving 100k+ insurance quotes per day — backed by Jest unit tests.
- Designed and shipped a shared logging capability adopted across the Quoting Platform, giving teams consistent, queryable diagnostics for their back-end services.
- Develop and operate services on AWS (Azure for auth) from design through peer review to release; regularly review teammates' pull requests.
- Drove the team's CI/CD migration from Bamboo to GitHub Actions (now 100% of pipelines), standardising and simplifying releases.
Belfast · 2020 – 2021 · placement year during the BEng
- Placement year (Java / Spring Boot) on a data lake / data warehouse team — built a batch-process calendar view still used by internal teams today.
TypeScript · 749 unit tests at 100% line coverage · SOLID, event-driven
- Designed and shipped a polished, zero-config markdown task / notes / project-management extension spanning two major IDE ecosystems, with 250+ commands, live editor decorations, autocomplete, diagnostics, and built-in AI assistance.
- Engineered for quality: 66 test files, SOLID and event-driven throughout, with every source module kept under 200 lines.
- Published: VS Code Marketplace · JetBrains Marketplace · Repos: VS Code · JetBrains
C# · .NET 10 · Uno Platform · ASP.NET Core · SignalR · WebAssembly
- Built and maintain solo a 38-project .NET solution (desktop + browser/WASM) with an event-driven architecture (CommunityToolkit IMessenger) and a DI/MVVM structure throughout.
- Built a real-time backend (ASP.NET Core + SignalR) for chat, news, and directory features, secured with JWT authentication and message encryption.
- Enforced strict engineering standards (200-line files, no partial classes, SOLID), backed by unit, integration, and UI test projects.
C# · Avalonia
- Built an open-source Avalonia desktop launcher accepted into the community-curated Awesome Avalonia list.
C# · .NET 10 · Avalonia · CQRS / event-driven · immutable state · 100% core test coverage
- Built a deterministic command→event simulation engine (CQRS-style — commands in, events out, immutable record state) with fully reproducible state and straightforward testing; the same patterns transfer directly to event-driven backend services.
- Liberty IT Scholarship — one of ~4 scholars selected from 150+ applicants; a bursary plus paid summer internships that led into the placement year and, in turn, a full-time role.
- Winner — Quoting Platform Hackathon, Liberty IT — built an observability platform integrated with GitHub Actions giving the team clear cross-environment deployment visibility.
- Selected to represent the team at Liberty IT's Boston (US) HQ — "Ignite" hackathons (2022) and Quoting Platform Con (2024).
- Earlier — represented the UK at the United Nations, Berlin (2015); built a Ruby app supporting farmers' mental health (QUB Hackathon, 2019).
