When adding a new artist there is no way to independently control which album types from the metadata profile are monitored by default. Some artists can have upwards of 50-100 singles that all get monitored by default if you select "All Albums" for the Monitor setting. This means if you want albums to be monitored when adding then you also have to have all other album types monitored too. This can result in a bunch of singles and other types being grabbed if the "Start search for new album" setting is enabled. Also, to unmonitor singles, EPs, Remixes, etc you need to go to each artist and manually unmonitor monitor them, which can become tedious depending on how many artists you have added.
Describe the solution you'd like
I would like the ability to independently control which album types are going to be monitored when adding a new artist. My use case is I really only want the artists main albums monitored by default with all other types unmonitored. Two ideas I thought of that would make this possible are:
- Add a checkbox next to each album type in the metadata profile with a label "do not monitor" to disable that type from being monitored when added. Then you can manually monitor any other types you want.
- When adding an artist, add more controls to the "Monitor" dropdown that allow you control exactly which types are monitored. OR, perhaps underneath the Monitor dropdown, add a checkbox for each album type enabled in the metadata profile to control whether they are added as monitored or unmonitored. This second approach would keep all of the monitoring controls in one place rather than have them set under the metadata profile and the artists profile.
I know this feature may not be 100% straightforward in terms of how it's added to the ui, but I think it would be a great improvement to the overall workflow. It is nice to have other album types added for but I would rather control which are monitored manually since it is usually only a handful.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Adding all albums and singles as monitored, then manually unmonitoring singles for each artist so I don't have 50 junk singles added to my library for 10 different artists. Then manually adding and monitoring the few singles that I do want.
Anything else?
Somewhat related to #519, #2671, #1025, and #2036. I think "unmonitoring singles that are included in albums" could be a useful feature too that could potentially be a configurable setting, but would not fix this issue.
