Waypoint 0.10.1 - Simplified Chinese

Waypoint now speaks Simplified Chinese. A new Waypoint also starts in your system's language when it has it.

Download Waypoint.exe below and run it. If you're on 0.8.0 or later, Waypoint offers this version itself.

New

  • Simplified Chinese (简体中文), in Settings → Language, beside English and Русский. Path of Exile's own words use the game's official Chinese text, for example 词缀 (modifier), 已污染 (corrupted) and 塑界者 (Shaper).
  • Your system's language on the first start. On a Chinese or Russian Windows, a new Waypoint opens in that language. If Waypoint already has your choice saved, nothing changes, and you can switch any time in Settings.
  • Windows' own text in Waypoint follows the language you pick, such as a text box's right-click menu.

Changed

  • Russian now uses the game's own words. 49 Russian texts now match the official Russian client:

    • «свойство» for a modifier;
    • «секция тайника» for a stash tab;
    • «Синхронизация» / «Рассинхронизация» for Lockstep / Predictive;
    • «Эл. почта» for the login field;
    • the game's menu path in Russian, with the English after it.

The item crafter's "Split" read «Расколотый», which is the game's word for Fractured. It now reads «Разделённый».

  • "Networking Mode". The setup instructions said "Network Mode", but the game calls the option Networking Mode.

About the translations

The Chinese text and the Russian changes were made by an English speaker, and no native speaker has reviewed them yet. If you're a native speaker of any language Waypoint has and something reads wrong, please open a pull request or an issue. docs/localization.md shows how to change a translation.

Not tested yet

  • Chinese on a real Linux machine. It needs a CJK font installed, such as Noto Sans CJK.

Waypoint 0.10.0 - Separate game settings, a Lockstep switch, and Linux

Waypoint 0.10.0 - Separate game settings, a Lockstep switch, and Linux

LocalExile gets game settings of its own, the server's Lockstep mode gets a switch, and Waypoint runs on Linux from its source code.

Download Waypoint.exe below and run it. If you're on 0.8.0 or later, Waypoint offers this version itself.

New

  • Game settings of LocalExile's own. Until now, LocalExile shared its graphics, keys, saved login and network mode with your normal Path of Exile (retail, Steam or Epic), so changing one changed the other. Now LocalExile keeps its own in Documents\My Games\Path of Exile\LocalExile. They start as a copy of your normal settings without your login, with Network Mode already set to Predictive.
    • A new setup does this by itself. The guide asks first only when it can't tell what else uses the client's settings, for example when your LocalExile uses your own Path of Exile folder instead of a copy.
    • An existing setup changes only when you say so. Play asks once, and in Advanced mode, Setup has Use separate game settings….
    • Your normal game's files are only read, never changed. You log in once more the first time.
  • A Lockstep switch (Advanced mode, Control, beside Hot reload). With it on, the server serves a game set to the Lockstep network mode on this PC. It needs a LocalExile source copy new enough to have lockstep. Releases up to 0.1.0-beta don't have it, so the switch doesn't show there. The game's own Network Mode stays yours to set.
  • Waypoint on Linux, from its source code: dotnet run --project src/Waypoint.Linux (see the README). There's no Linux download yet. Not on Linux yet: walk maps, the client control bridge, the item crafter, the tray and the appearance editor.

Fixed

  • The network mode check read the wrong file. It read your normal game's settings even when LocalExile used its own, so it could warn about Lockstep while your LocalExile game was set to Predictive. It now reads the file the game really uses, and with the Lockstep switch on, it no longer calls Lockstep unplayable.

Not tested yet

  • A release that uses your own Path of Exile folder instead of a copy: the guide's question was tested on a linked source copy, not on a release linked that way.

Please report anything that goes wrong.

Waypoint 0.9.2 - Setup guide fix

Waypoint 0.9.2 - Setup guide fix

A fix for the new way to get the item crafter.

Download Waypoint.exe below and run it. If you're on 0.8.0 or later, Waypoint offers this version itself.

Fixed

  • "LocalExile build failed" in the setup guide. Choosing your LocalExile release under "Use a LocalExile folder I already have" made setup try to build it, which failed with "Project file does not exist". A release has no source code to build. The guide now says so and points you to the download.

Your release and saves are not affected by this error. If you hit it on 0.9.1, press Back to the LocalExile page, choose Download LocalExile from GitHub into this folder, and use a new or empty folder.

Not tested yet

  • The new message on Browse… couldn't be run in the real app by our automated test. The build step's own refusal is tested.
  • The items under "Not tested yet" in the 0.9.1 notes still apply.

Please report anything that goes wrong.

Waypoint 0.9.1 - The item crafter for release players

Waypoint 0.9.1 - The item crafter for release players

LocalExile's current release doesn't include the item crafter yet. Waypoint can now set up a new copy of LocalExile that does, and bring your characters with you.

Download Waypoint.exe below and run it. If you're on 0.8.0 or later, Waypoint offers this version itself.

New

  • Get the item crafter. On a release, go to Tools and press Get the item crafter…. The setup guide installs a new copy of LocalExile from its source code, and tells you exactly what will happen before it starts.
  • Your choices:
    • Bring my characters, or Start with a new database.
    • Keep both, or Remove the old one later. Your current LocalExile stays until the new copy has worked for you, and Waypoint asks before deleting it.
    • Stay on a tested version, or Get the newest changes.
    • Set up Give item, which installs Frida.
  • Give item offers to set itself up. If Frida is missing, the item crafter offers to install it. Frida is needed because the game's chat box stops at 175 characters, too short for most crafted items.
  • The copy button says when a command is too long for the game's chat box.

Also new since 0.8.5: importing items into the crafter from Path of Building or the game, thanks to JetStream.

If you installed 0.9.0

Despite its number, 0.9.0 was built from older code, so it's missing fixes and LocalExile release support. This version replaces it, and Waypoint offers it as usual.

Good to know

  • A new copy needs the .NET 10 SDK, Git, Python and Node.js. The guide checks for them and links the downloads.
  • It runs LocalExile from its source code, which is newer than the release and hasn't been through a release's testing. The tested version doesn't change by itself.
  • Mods you added yourself don't come across. Your mod on/off choices do.
  • If you keep both, Waypoint's Change folder… on Play switches between them. Each has its own characters and progress.

Tested

On a real LocalExile 0.1.0-beta install and a real 3.29.3b client, in Simple mode: moving a character with its items, pressing Play on the new copy and entering the game, giving a crafted item from the crafter, removing the old release, and starting with a new database.

Not tested yet

  • Waypoint's Play button on a release itself. The test started the release with LocalExile.exe.
  • Copying the game client instead of sharing it, during the move.
  • Removing the old release when the two folders are on different drives.
  • Bringing characters into a folder that already has some. Only an automated test covers this.
  • The Russian text has had no native review.

Please report anything that goes wrong.

Waypoint 0.8.5 - False Gateway error fixed

A small fix for an error that wasn't real.

Download Waypoint.exe below and run it. If you're on 0.8.0 or later, Waypoint offers this version itself.

Fixed

  • No more false "Gateway exited" error. Logs showed this each time Waypoint started on a LocalExile release, and whenever the item crafter opened on a source checkout. Waypoint was mistaking its own short look at the Gateway for a running server. Nothing had actually gone wrong.

If you've already seen that error, you can ignore it.

Not tested yet

The fix was tested on a real LocalExile 0.1.0-beta install and a real source checkout. The items listed under "Not tested yet" in the 0.8.4 notes still haven't been tested, including logging in and playing. Please report anything that goes wrong there.

Waypoint 0.8.4 - LocalExile releases

Waypoint can now install and update LocalExile's ready-to-play releases, so you can play without building anything from source. Thanks to Wrathen.

Download Waypoint.exe below and run it. If you're on 0.8.0 or later, Waypoint offers this version itself.

New: play from a LocalExile release

  • Setup guide: the ready-to-play release now comes first. Waypoint downloads it, checks it against its SHA-256, sets up your game client and creates your account. A source checkout is still there as the other choice.
  • Updates: when a newer LocalExile release is out, a green card offers it. The game has to be closed first. Your characters, keys and game client are kept, and your saves are copied first if Automatic backups is on.
  • Play: shows each step as it runs, with the time so far, and backs up your saves first.
  • Folders: Play and Control can switch to another folder or set up a new copy.

Your game client is copied by default, so your normal game install isn't touched. The guide can use the client folder itself to save space, but LocalExile then changes that client.

On a release

A release has no source code or client control bridge, so a few things work differently:

  • Control starts and stops everything together.
  • Versions lists releases, and updates only go forward.
  • Console copies a command for you to paste into the game's chat.
  • Mods shows built mods only.
  • Tools: the item crafter needs a source checkout, and is turned off with an explanation.

Sections changed

  • Simple mode now has Play, Mods, Backups, Accounts, Logs, Console, Tools and Settings.
  • The Simple | Advanced switch is now hidden until you turn on Developer Mode in Settings. If you were already in Advanced mode, nothing changes.
  • Setup has left the sidebar, and is reached from Control.

Known issue

On a release, Logs shows "Gateway exited" as an error each time Waypoint starts. It's harmless: Waypoint briefly runs the Gateway to read its command list.

Not tested yet

The download, install and every section were tested on the real LocalExile 0.1.0-beta, and an existing checkout and its settings carried over correctly. These haven't been tested through this version of Waypoint yet:

  • Logging in and playing, on a release or a checkout
  • Setup with a real client, and creating an account
  • Changing backups, accounts or mods on a release
  • Updating to a newer LocalExile release, since only one exists so far
  • Switching folders
  • Give item from the item crafter

The Russian text hasn't had a native review. Please report anything that goes wrong.

Waypoint 0.8.3 - Item crafter

@github-actions github-actions released this 31 Oct 23:06

Waypoint 0.8.3 - Item crafter

A new Tools section, with an item crafter by JetStream: make any item and give it to your character in game.

Download Waypoint.exe below and run it. If you're on 0.8.0 or later, Waypoint offers this version itself.

New: the item crafter

Open it from Tools → Open item crafter. It's in both Simple and Advanced modes.

  • Pick a base by item class, or search for one.
  • Add modifiers: prefixes, suffixes, bench crafts, influence modifiers, corruption and Eldritch implicits, or any modifier with no rules. Each one shows its tier and range, worded as the game words it.
  • Set the rest: rarity, item level, quality, sockets and links, states and influences, and a rare's name. Slide each modifier's values, or type any whole number.
  • Watch the preview update as you go, in the game's rarity colours.
  • Save items to come back to them, and Give item to put one in your inventory.

The crafter needs a recent LocalExile. If yours is older, the window says so: update LocalExile, then play or start the servers once to build it.

Give item also needs the game running with a character in an area, and Python with Frida. The Setup section in Advanced mode shows how to install Frida. You only need it for giving items, not for playing.

An item with about ten or more modifiers is too long to send and shows an error. That only happens with Any modifier (no rules); a normal rare always fits.

Not tested yet

Give item has not been tried in a real game client yet. The window, saving, and reading the item data were tested on a real copy of LocalExile. Logging in and playing through Simple mode or a shared client have not been tested yet either. Please report anything that goes wrong there.

Waypoint 0.8.2 - Shared game clients

@github-actions github-actions released this 31 Oct 20:05

Waypoint 0.8.2 - Shared game clients

If your Client folder is a link to a client somewhere else, Waypoint now understands that. It can also save you a 70 GB copy.

Download Waypoint.exe below and run it. If you're on 0.8.0 or 0.8.1, Waypoint offers this version itself.

Fixed

  • A linked client no longer looks broken. Setup now shows where the link leads. Prepare client used to fail with "Client must be a separate physical copy", which made a working client look missing.
  • Setup only offers what's needed. A requirement that's already met no longer shows a button.
  • A broken link can be repaired. If the client folder was moved, Setup says so, and the setup guide replaces the link. This used to be a dead end.

New: share a client instead of copying it

If you have more than one copy of LocalExile, the setup guide can share a client you've already prepared, which saves about 69 GB.

  • It's offered only for a client that's already prepared, so your normal game install is never changed.
  • Waypoint checks that the client and its login keys belong together. If it can't confirm that, it doesn't offer sharing, and copying still works.
  • Waypoint never changes a shared client, because your other copies may be using it.

Two copies of LocalExile that share a client can't run at the same time.

Not tested yet

Sharing and repairing a link were tested on a real copy of LocalExile, up to the build step. A full build, login, and play through a shared client have not been tested yet, and neither has logging in and playing through Simple mode. Please report anything that goes wrong there.

Waypoint 0.8.1 - Simple and Advanced modes

Just want to play? Waypoint now has one button for that. If you like to tinker, everything is still there, one click away.

Download Waypoint.exe below and run it. If you're already on 0.8.0, Waypoint offers this version itself.

Simple mode

New players start here. Waypoint shows Play, Mods, Accounts, and Settings, and there's nothing to choose.

  • Play does everything. It backs up your saves, gets the newest LocalExile at most once a day, builds it, and starts the game.
  • A bad update doesn't stop you. If a new version won't start, Waypoint goes back to the one you had, saves included, and starts that.
  • You can go back. Go back to the version you had stays available for a week after an update, and using it pauses updates for a week.
  • Your own work is safe. A copy with your own changes, commits, branch, or fork is never updated automatically.
  • You stay in control. Settings > Updates > Keep LocalExile up to date turns updates off.

Advanced mode

If you used an earlier Waypoint or LocalExile Launcher, you start here. It has every section, and it never updates LocalExile by itself.

The Simple | Advanced switch at the bottom of the sidebar is always there, and you can change it at any time.

Versions now compares your copy with LocalExile, even when origin is your fork:

  • You can see how far behind you are, such as "33 commit(s) behind LocalExile".
  • It lists LocalExile's open pull requests, and you can switch to them.
  • Each branch shows whether it comes from LocalExile, your fork, or only your PC.
  • Update brings in LocalExile's commits, and refuses if your branch has commits of its own. Your fork stays as it is until you push.

Good to know

LocalExile doesn't have stable releases yet, so an update in Simple mode is its latest code. Waypoint can catch a version that won't build or start, but not a bug inside the game. If you hit one, use Go back to the version you had.

Not tested yet

Updates, going back, and the fallback were tested on a real copy of LocalExile, but with a stand-in for starting the game. Logging in and playing through Simple mode have not been tested yet, so please report anything that goes wrong there.
