EraSwitch v0.1.0

EraSwitch Switch your Windows 11 desktop to a Windows XP look and back with one click. See the README for setup.

What's new in 0.1.0 (2026-10-17)

Added

• Switch between Windows 11 and a Windows XP look from the tray icon or with Ctrl+Alt+E.
• Taskbar through RetroBar (any of its XP themes) and Start menu through Open-Shell's XP Luna skin.
• Optional wallpaper and Windows sound scheme pieces.
• A snapshot of your Windows 11 settings, taken before every switch, that puts everything back.
• Recovery: a crash or Ctrl+C restores Windows 11, starting EraSwitch with the era still on resumes it (or finishes a restore that was cut off), and EraSwitch.exe --restore (also run by the uninstallers) undoes it from the command line.
• Exiting EraSwitch switches back to Windows 11 first, and stays running if that fails.
• Era files are checked before use: theme and skin names can't point outside RetroBar's and Open-Shell's own folders.
• Save and open eras as .londo files, wallpaper included.
• Finds RetroBar and Open-Shell, and installs them with winget from Settings.
• Run at sign-in, Windows notifications, and an in-app updater that checks SHA-256 and installs only when you click.

Already have EraSwitch? It offers this version in-app (Settings > Updater > Download & Install) and checks the SHA-256 before installing anything.

Install

Installer (recommended): download eraswitch-0.1.0-setup-x64.exe and run it. It installs for your user only, so there is no admin prompt. The binaries are not code-signed: if SmartScreen says "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway.

MSI: eraswitch-0.1.0-x64.msi (also x86 and arm64). Per-user by default. For every user on the PC (admin): msiexec /i eraswitch-0.1.0-x64.msi ALLUSERS=2 MSIINSTALLPERUSER="". Add DESKTOPSHORTCUT=0 to skip the desktop icon or AUTOSTART=1 to start with Windows.

Portable: EraSwitch-v0.1.0-x64-portable.exe is the whole app in one exe; EraSwitch-v0.1.0-portable.zip has all three builds and keeps settings next to the exe.

PowerShell: picks the right build for your PC, checks it, and installs it:

Verify a download

SHA256SUMS.txt lists the SHA-256 of every file on this release. In PowerShell, next to the download:

(Get-FileHash .\eraswitch-0.1.0-setup-x64.exe -Algorithm SHA256).Hash.ToLower()

and compare it with that file's line below. On Linux or macOS: sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS.txt --ignore-missing.

Torrents

Every download is also a .torrent with its GitHub download as the web seed: a BitTorrent client gets it from GitHub when nobody is seeding, and from peers when they are. The magnet links carry the same web seed, but need one peer to fetch the file list first.
