Test build of the latest changes, 26 October 2026. It may have bugs.

New since v0.50:

  • Zipped games: put .zip or .7z ROMs in Slot/Games/GB, GBC, GBA, NES or SNES and they play like the plain ROM, under the archive's name. Zip a ROM under its own name and it keeps its saves, states, label and play time. Each archive needs exactly one ROM in it; it is unpacked into Slot/System/Cache/Unpacked when you start it, and only the last one is kept. PlayStation games stay as they are.
  • Pause menu: tap HOME in a game to pause it and choose Resume, Save State, Load State (opens the save state switcher), Reset Game or Quit Game. Reset Game starts the game over, as the console's reset button does: its battery save stays, play since your last save is lost. B or HOME resumes. Hold HOME and double-tap HOME work as before. Not during multiplayer, where the game can't pause.
  • Slot OS for the Brick Pro (experimental, not yet tried on a Brick Pro): flash slot-os-brickpro-…-sd-card.img.xz. It is built from TrimUI's Brick Pro firmware, reads the Pro's own button layout, and its left stick works as the D-pad, as on stock firmware. Please report how it goes in issue #65.
  • Sounds: the HOME menu now makes a soft pop as you move, change a setting, open a page and go back; a GBA cart pops as it opens for the core picker, and snaps shut as it closes; and a label slaps down as it lands on its cart.
  • System → System Sounds: set how loud Slot's own sounds are (Volume, 0–100%, on top of the Brick's volume), and turn each kind on or off: Menu, Favorite Star, Cart In & Out, Cart Opening and Label On. Sounds in quick succession no longer add up to louder and louder; each takes over from the last.
  • Fixed: putting a label on a GBA cart in its own colour (such as Pokémon Ruby's red) showed the cart black while framing the label and as it flew on. And while a label flies on, the cart's empty label slot now shows its plastic, in the colour you picked, rather than black.
  • Favorites: the star now pops onto the cart when you press Y, with one of five pop sounds at random, and pops off again with a lower, softer one. It's shaded too, with a lit and a dark side.
  • Library → Systems: hide the shelves of systems you don't play. The last system with games can't be hidden.
  • System → Reset Settings: puts every setting back to how it came (LEDs and font included). Press A, then A again when it asks "Sure?". Games, saves, states, play time, favorites, the clock, brightness and volume stay.
  • System → About is now a page: the version, whether it is a Dev build or a release, the device, the firmware (stock or Slot OS), and how much of the SD card is free. The label is still there, under About → Label.
  • Fixed: after waking from sleep, Wi-Fi could say it was connected while Cart Art, RetroAchievements and Update stayed greyed out until Wi-Fi was turned off and on. Slot now notices and gets an address again by itself.

INTRODUCING: Slot OS

Slot as its own custom firmware: the Brick boots straight from the SD card into Slot, in under
3 seconds instead of about 9. Otherwise it is the same Slot, with the same games, saves and
settings. Flash slot-os-dev-sd-card.img.xz onto a card (it erases the card); the README has
the guide. It keeps itself up to date through HOME → Online → Update.

Brick Pro (experimental, not yet tried on one): flash slot-os-brickpro-dev-sd-card.img.xz
instead. It is built from TrimUI's Brick Pro firmware and reads the Pro's buttons and sticks. If you
try it, please report back in issue #65 with the card's Slot/Logs folder.
