A clipboard manager sees everything you copy, so here's exactly what Kurenai does with it.

What gets saved

Text and images you copy, up to the history limit you choose (2000 by default). Files copied in Finder are not saved, only text and pictures.

What never gets saved

Anything a password manager marks as secret. 1Password, Bitwarden, Apple Passwords and most others do this, following the nspasteboard.org convention. Also anything copied while one of your excluded apps is in front. Keychain Access and Passwords are excluded from the start, you can add your bank, a work browser and so on in Settings.

Where it's stored

~/Library/Application Support/Kurenai. History, the paste queue and images are encrypted with AES-GCM. The key is stored in the same folder and only your macOS user can read it. So a copied or leaked file is useless on its own, but anyone logged in as you can read your history, same as they could read your files.

Screen sharing

Kurenai marks its windows as private, so macOS screenshots skip them and they don't appear when you share your screen in Telegram. Some recording and video call apps capture the screen in a way that ignores this flag, so if it matters, check with the app you use.

Network

Kurenai doesn't send anything anywhere. If you turn on the update check, it asks GitHub once a day for the latest version number. No cookies, nothing about you.

Clearing

Settings has a button to wipe the history, and an option to clear history and queue every time you quit.
