What's New in v2.8.0
Four new market and hiscores tools, and reworked tabs.
Tabs
- Reorder by dragging. Tabs move like browser tabs.
- Drag out to a window. Drag a tab below the tab bar and it becomes its own window. Drag it back onto the bar, or right click the window, to put it back.
- Tool icons on tabs and on the separate windows.
- Tabs are saved. Open tabs come back on the next start.
- The game view is fixed. It can't be reordered, dragged out or closed.
Price Check (new)
A quick lookup for one item in the Price Watch panel. No watch needed.
- Buy side, sell side and the difference, taken from the offers standing right now.
- The big number is the best standing offer. Average, range and offer count are under it.
- Offers paid with items are counted in gp, using each item's own trade history.
- Each side can be opened up to show who is offering and what the item offers contain.
Price Watch (new)
- Watch an item, pick buying or selling, set a min/max and how far outside it you still want to see.
- Checks in the background and sends a desktop notification on a match.
- Item search with sprites. Prices can be typed as
1200k,12m,1.5m,2b. - Works in the nav column or as its own window.
Price History (new)
- Chart of finished trades with All / 3 month / 1 month / 1 week ranges.
- Filters for how the trade was paid, buy and sell lines you can switch off, mouse wheel zoom.
- Item and mixed offers are counted in gp and drawn together with the coin trades.
- Trade list under the chart. Hovering a row highlights the point it belongs to.
- Cards on top show the current buy price, sell price and the difference.
Hiscores Compare (new)
- Two accounts next to each other, skill by skill, with an arrow per row.
- Levels and XP modes. Above 99 it compares XP so the result still means something.
- Opens as its own window from the Hiscores panel.
Price checks on bad listings
Player listings are not always literal, so prices get checked before they are used:
- Fake prices. A token coin amount with the real number in the notes ("169 Coins" / "169m offer pm for list") is read from the notes when the notes support it, and kept out of averages and alerts when they don't.
- Wrong units. A value that lands far outside what the item normally goes for, like dragon bones asking 2,900 bones instead of 2,900 coins, is kept off the chart so it can't flatten all the real prices on it.
- Nothing is thrown away silently. Flagged entries stay in the list and explain themselves on hover.
Browsing Markets directly
Unchanged. The Markets nav button opens markets.lostcity.rs as a tab like before, and none of the new tools replace it or get in the way.
They do link into it. Items, offers and watched items open the matching page on Markets, and the Price History window has a Markets button for the item you are looking at.
The numbers only help you decide
These tools are there to give an idea of the price. The judgement stays with the user.
Every number comes from what other players listed, and listings can be mistakes, tests, or done on purpose to move a price. The checks above remove what can be detected and mark what is not certain, but the client can't know what someone meant, and it can't tell an unusual price from a wrong one. Every number is something to consider, not an answer.
It goes the other way too. The history is only as accurate as the offers people put up. Listing the real price and the real item is what keeps the charts worth reading for everyone who checks them later.
Interface
- Small text (10-11px) uses the plain font now instead of the bold one, which was too thick to read at that size. Bold text inside small text still uses the real bold font.
- The Quill font option is removed.
Fixes
- Settings could be lost on quit. Pending changes are now written before the client exits.
- Settings writes were not safe. They go to a temp file and are renamed into place. A settings file that can't be read is backed up instead of overwritten.
- Hiscores rate limits showed up as "player not found". Single lookups and compares use one shared path now, with a short cache, spacing between requests and one automatic retry. So the limit is rarely hit, and when it is, it says so.
Notes
- Settings are shared by every LostKit install on the machine. That is what keeps upgrading and downgrading working, but all copies read and write the same file.
- Price Check and Price History only request the data part of a market page, not the images and scripts. One lookup costs markets.lostcity.rs less than one person opening the same page in a browser. Watches check every 5 minutes.
