cargo echoes checks Rust doctests for duplication and can also compare functions, code blocks and dependency sources.

Installation

Install Rust stable and Cargo and a C toolchain for your platform. Ensure Cargo's binary directory is on PATH.

Released package

cargo +stable install --locked echoes

Wiki examples

The examples in this wiki use main. Install that source build for context and dependency analysis.

cargo +stable install --git https://github.com/LucaCappelletti94/cargo-echoes.git --branch main --locked echoes

Verify the installation with cargo echoes --version.

Local duplicates

cargo echoes --functions --context-blocks

Checks describes the findings and function remedies. What counts as the same code explains canonical forms and their limits.

Dependency reuse

cargo echoes --context-dependency-depth 1 --context-check-latest false

Dependency reuse explains dependency depth, workspace matches, public APIs, upstream extraction requests and incomplete coverage. Performance gives measured time and memory costs, cache behavior and scaling limits.

Organizations

cargo echoes --organization my-org --functions

Organization search explains which repositories are read, how crates are compared and how incomplete coverage is reported.

Configuration and integration

  • Configuration lists command-line options, .echoes.toml keys and exit statuses.
  • GitHub Action covers reviews, dependency-cache handling and fork workflows.
  • Library describes the Rust API and reports.

Released APIs are documented on docs.rs.
