Touch fixes for OrcaSlicer for Android.

Fixed

  • Pinch to zoom is reliable. A second finger could be dropped by Qt after it landed, so a pinch, often a zoom-out, sometimes did nothing until the Back button was pressed. The 3D view now keeps both fingers in every case.
  • Pinch zooms toward your fingers, like other touch apps, instead of toward the screen centre, so the model stays under your fingers.
  • Long press no longer swallows pinches. If the second finger landed late, the context menu used to open; it now opens only when you lift a finger you held still.
  • The app has the real OrcaSlicer launcher icon.

Which APK?

  • OrcaSlicer-android-arm64-preview.apk: phones, tablets and foldables.
  • OrcaSlicer-android-x86_64-preview.apk: emulators and x86 Chromebooks.

Installs as an update over 0.1.0 (version code 2). Requires Android 9+ and OpenGL ES 3.0.

Tip: if object names float over your models, that is Show Labels. Long-press the empty plate and untick it.

@LucasCoraca LucasCoraca released this 19 Oct 13:16

First public preview of OrcaSlicer for Android: OrcaSlicer's own slicing engine and wxWidgets interface, running natively on Android. It is not a companion app or a rewrite. Based on OrcaSlicer 2.5.0-dev (1ee0b730).

Which APK?

  • OrcaSlicer-android-arm64-preview.apk: phones, tablets and foldables (almost every device since 2017).
  • OrcaSlicer-android-x86_64-preview.apk: emulators and x86 Chromebooks.

Requires Android 9+ and OpenGL ES 3.0. The APKs are signed with a development key, so Android will ask you to allow installing apps from your browser or file manager.

Highlights

  • Prepare, gizmos (move, rotate, scale and the rest), all settings and presets, slicing, and the Preview legend and layer sliders.
  • Touch input:
    • Tap to select, drag to move or orbit.
    • Long-press for context menus.
    • Two fingers pinch to zoom, pan and twist to rotate.
    • Kinetic scrolling.
    • The back button closes dialogs.
  • Adaptive layout: the desktop layout on tablets, and a compact layout on phones (full-screen settings, vertical gizmo column, compact bars).
  • The system file picker (Storage Access Framework) for opening models, the system WebView for Home and the setup wizard, and the light/dark theme from the system.

Known limitations

  • No Bambu Lab cloud or network plugin (it is a closed-source desktop binary), and no printer camera yet.
  • Some web dialogs (printer selection) are not yet adapted to narrow phone screens.
  • On emulators with a software GPU, Preview toolpaths render black.
